I was driving through some of my open fields where the ground was quite bumpy and my seat suspension completely gave in. It seem that there are plastic threads on the seat comfort adjustment and all of the threads sheared off their shaft and now I have piece of wood under the "scissor" brackets keeping the seat at the right height. By looking at JDParts I cannot tell if I can replace just that black plastic shaft or if I have to replace it as a unit. It would be nice if the threads were metal.

I have a 5300 and the seat mechanizm on it is junk too. I wound up welding it up at the height I needed with some half in round stock. Never liked it from the first day, always bottomed out. Making it solid is no different, but at least I don't have my knees in my chin. I don't think this problem is just for JD, had the same trouble with other tractors too.
