JD 4200 HST Starts but engine shuts off when engaging forward/reverse

This is my suspicion, also. I was just wondering if there is another 'downstream' safety switch that would act like the seat switch. Looking at the wiring diagram, I really can't tell. I assume I can break my jumper connection and test the voltage at the joint to see if there's a connectivity issue. The tractor sits outside, and I have no shortage of field mice/squirrels other rodents.

So, my layman interpretation of the wiring diagram. The seat safety switch is probably the culprit. It appears to be the only thing that can disable the Engine Run Relay.

I'm going with a problem there. KISS principle says your jumper isn't working. Next phase would be a broken power wire to the seat safety switch. That would be very easy to check.

Jd 4200 hst nas a neutral switch on the range selection lever. If the switch does not indicate neutral it will not start. On my tractor this switch is disconnected as there is a mmm attachment.

There is also a neutral safety switch for the rear PTO. If the PTO light is on it will not start. The connection should be on the right side towards the back. The fender may have to be removed to access it.
( There may also be a electric PTO clutch involved in this circuit. .??)

I am having this problem but have not had time to pull the fender. I have also not get the tractor to start by direct jumper cables. No reaction. The rear wheels are jacked up, in neutral and the wheels will not turn. The rear PTO also is locked in place. No movement when the control lever is moved to different positions. The mid PTO responds to controls.

The only thing that jumps out to me is this The rear wheels are jacked up, in neutral and the wheels will not turn. If you don't have the tractor in 4wd, it thinks it's in gear, which it is, so won't let the starter activate?

Folks, you need to READ the post. It starts, it runs, it stalls when it begins to MOVE.
Look to see if the fuel shut-off solenoid drops out, or is it due to a locked-up transmission ? When we had a 4400 apart to fix a broken off range selector shaft, I could see how you might be it 2 ranges at the same time if the detent was kaput. And that, ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls, wanna be boys or girls, & city dwellers, is the question at hand.
