Very COOL! Congrats!
As RG1 wrote, its a DI engine so no glow plugs, but there is a intake/grid heater (#14) that's active when the key is in the start position I think.

This is interesting. I never knew that heater block was there on my machine, but I just went and checked to see, and sure enough.. There is a wire running to it, so it may actually do something, but there is zero mention of it anywhere in any of my manuals, nor any of the sales brochures or Grounds Care catalogs that JD used to put out that I have from the time frame that the 4115 was in production. I'm not sure I understand what it does/how it operates, if anything at all. It certainly doesn't do anything to aid the cold starts that I have found so far. I have tried leaving my key in the on position for several seconds, turning it to the on position and holding it in like I did on my 4500 for several seconds etc., just to see if there was anything similar to the 4500 that my manual failed to mention. The only things to aid cold weather starting mentioned in the manual is to install the coolant or the block heater.
It seems that if holding the key to the start position with the pto knob on or the gear selector in gear would make it work, the manual should at least make some mention of the thing one way or another.
Next winter, I am going to try what you said and see if the thing starts any faster. Actually, the 4115 starts pretty well, but it runs like it is really cold for a while. The heater system on my 4500 made it run good almost immediately.
