I just recieved a new JD 4110 with FEL 61"bucket, Ballast box, curtis soft cab, Heater, and am / fm stereo cassette, 5' back blade and 60" rear finish mower. I'm not sure what rpm to use for digging or moving dirt. And can you hurt a hydro transmission? Thanks!

Just find the RPM where the engine feels comfortable and your FEL operates at a speed that's comfortable for you. My B2400 has a sweet spot at @1800-2000RPM and has all the hydraulic power it needs.
Even an anvil can be broken, but you'd have to really try to break your hydro!! When digging use your lowest range and you'll find you run out of traction before you will run out of power. Also, remember that with a hydro you DON'T get more power the further you press on the pedal. The harder you press on the pedal is just like shifting to a higher gear, you get more speed but less brute power. When pushing into your load with FEL, try slowly easing off the hydro pedal when tractor feels like its going to stop( hydro stall). Have Fun!!

Thanks for the info, I was digging up some top soil yesterday (first time) and I was at 2000 rpm everything seemed fine. But there were a couple of times when I was digging in, the wheels stopped turning and wouldn't go, but the engine nevered stalled. But I was pushing on the pedal even more.

That's when your pressure relief valve pops. Feels like no power is going to the wheels but the engine is running fine. It's a safety mechanism that protects your engine and tranny on hydro's. If you keep it in the lowest range and only push on the pedal 1/4 of it's full travel you'll get the most power out of your hydro as others have already mentioned. Good luck Backwoods and have fun!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the information. I didn't want to harm the machine by working it to hard, or by operating it at the wrong rpm. It is brand new and I'd like to get years of use out of it.

Backwoods if you did not get a operators manual with your rig then that would be the first thing that I would look for. It is filled with valuable information that is specific to your tractor and the correct use of it. I find myself reverting back to mine for additional information on a regular basis. I am sure that your dealer can help you in locating one and it would be a wise investment.

By the way, WELCOME to the TBN site. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the welcome! I did recieve all the operator manuals for my new equipment. However it says if you are using the pto to be at 2650rpm, But for everything else it says use an rpm thats comfortable for the tractor, or something to that effect. Thanks for the information.
