JD 4110 front axle seals leaking-need help/advice

Hi, sorry, I never followed up with the actual part numbers I replaced on my 2002 4115. These may be similar for your 4110, but I would double check with your dealer. I ended up replacing the upper bearing #10 M807422, upper bushing #12 LVU800629, the shim #16 M808574, the seal #22 CH14665, the sleeve #23 M807497, the lower bearing #25 LVU800252, and then finally the actual pinion drive gear itself on one side #13 LVU803535 (it was pretty chewed up). All in all this was about $300 worth of parts. You will learn more once you get in there and dig around, but effectively I had worn bushings and bearings that created lots of slop between the vertical pinion gear and the final drive ring gear, and this caused the seals to fail and one side's pinion to be damaged. It started out as a small leak but got much worse pretty quickly.

Hopefully you are able to get the parts you need, in the correct sizes to your existing pinion and housing setup. From what I understand, there is some point in which John Deere updated the design and made the pinion, bearings, and bushings larger, which required a new upper housing (#14 GEAR CASE), and also maybe even a new lower housing with a larger bearing (#26 GEAR CASE). Our dealer was nice enough to order the parts and let me do some fit checking with my old parts before he charged me. Good luck!

AFish66, Thanks for the reply, I hope I an get away with a seal and bushing but we'll see when I get it back and take it apart. I'll have to find the parts diagram your using since the one I found has different part numbers. Thanks Ray

Going to resurrect this thread since I have some specific questions about some of the previous info presented and hoping the authors are around to help.

Have a JD 4100 and broke the pinion shaft in the left front drive. It broke right at the interface between the upper and lower gear cases. So got it apart and have some questions about the parts I need to order. From this thread and others it looks like JD has changed the upper gear case and the new replacement is an assembly that contains the pinion shaft with bushing along with the upper gear housing (part no. LVA803306/#15). What else comes with this assembly? I have some other damaged seals and bearings I will need to order so trying to see what if any comes with the LVA803306 assembly.

Since the LVA803306 assembly has a redesigned upper gear case will I need a new lower gear case (M807512/#26) - or will old and new parts still fit together?

There was damage to the seal in the lower gear case (CH14665/#22) so need to remove and replace. Any tips on how to remove. Been trying but just managed to chew up the seal and don’t want to damage to case sealing surface.

Also, I don’t thing the upper gear case is salvagable but just in case any ideas on how to remove the bushing (LVU800689/#12). It is also damaged and stuck fast into the upper gear housing.

Ordered the replacement LVA803306 assembly and it comes with a new upper gearbox, a larger diameter pinion shaft, and a larger diameter bushing, and snap ring. Also needed a new bearing, a new gear, and a couple of new seals. Had a concern if the new upper gear case would fit with the old lower gear case but no issue there. Back together and a gallon of gear oil and back running again for about $500.
