Mow 5 acres but use a 620ztrac for yard. Move some dirt around and getting rid of my old 8N that I used for rough mowing and bushoging. 4100 w/410 loader 60"mid deck is $14,000 used but perfect and has 135 hrs. 2210 new w/loader and 60" deck is $12,800. BX2230 with loader and 60" deck is $13,200 new. What is the best deal? Leaning to the 4100. Would the 20hp 4100 have enough lift power on the loader for going at a dirt pile? Now someone is mentioning a case DX 24. Very confusing. Any experience with the actual performance of these would be helpful!

For loader lift capacity I would strongly suggest you go to the various manufacturers websites and check what their lift capacity is as well as the break out force of the units.

20hp on the 4xxx series tractor is not the limiting factor of the loader lift capacity, the hydraulic pump is the thing that will determine the capacity. So DON'T compare HP ratings and think that they are the thing that gives you your lifting power.

You are comparing SUB-CUTS to CUTS so you really need to decide if you want a mower that will do tractor work, or if you want a tractor that will also mow. Sub-Cuts turn tighter and that will make mowing a little faster. CUTS give you ground clearance which may help you speed up or complete "tractoring" chores.

The CASE DX series is mechanically identical to the New Holland TC series, different cosmetics, same tractors. Case does not offer super steer on the larger units. Pricing is very similar.

My 4100/410 loader combo is slightly under-powered in terms of lift capacity for the 60-something (I can't remember 61, 62, or 63") bucket. However, it still moves a lot of dirt even if it can't lift a heaping full bucket load.

For digging, you will need to add a toothbar.

When I take the loader and ballast off, the 4100 is plenty manueverable for mowing with the 60" deck.

I'm new to the loader factor, what implement do I need for ballast and how much weight? Also, they are wanting to put a 48" bucket on the 410 but I don't know if this is too small.

My personal preference is to get a bucket that is slightly wider than the width of the tractor. Bigger buckets carry more volume, but not more weight, they are also a bit harder to dig with than a smaller bucket.

As for weight, I strongly recommend you get the rear tires loaded with fluid.

What a great site! I appreciate the help and interesting reading, as well as informative. I'm a novice, but have figured out that I'm looking for a tractor/loader with some mowing ability. I'm in a small Ozark town and have a good JD dealer that I have had good experience with service wise. The '2000 JD 4100 w/135 hrs, turf tires, 60" mid mower, 3PH and hydrolics for loader is priced at $12,000. They will bring in a new 420 loader with 49" bucket ($2600 they say) and priced for sale @ $14,000. Does anyone out there have any feelings on how good a deal this price looks. Also talked to an individual that works for a Deere dealer in northern Missouri that has a 4115 w/60 hrs set up the same (next step up loader) and 60" mid mower. He apparently gets a new one every couple of years but the price steps up to $16,750. Now my wife is really raising her eyebrows. God help us all, we really are still boys. Help? Will be checking out New Holland but Deere only dealer within 30 mi.

hehe, I know all about raised eyebrows! At the same time i'm trying to talk the wife into spending a bit more for the tractor purchase (to get the loader) i'm trying to talk her out of spending 20K for a pool! I'm getting some looks, but fortunately she does most of the mowing and does not have a problem with the tractor/deck but when it comes to adding more $ for a loader i'm not having an easy time.

I'm almost set on a 2210, but i'm going to make a few calls tomorrow to see if there is a low hours 4100 available somewhere close.

Bob has a good point about comparing CUTS to SubCUTS. There are real differences in capabilities, especially with regard to the 3pt hitch and ground clearance.

I also agree to get the bigger bucket since it will make shorter work of many FEL jobs, like moving mulch, firewood, etc.

Skip the ballasted tires if you are mowing a lawn, causes to much compaction. When using a FEL you will need ballast on the 3pt hitch even with ballasted tire so get a boxblade and add some weight to it as necessary.

The $12k for the 4100 with MMM sounds kinda high, even with low hours and clean condition. My new (July 03) 4110 with FEL, 60" MMM, 60" boxblade was 16k.

"20hp on the 4xxx series tractor is not the limiting factor of the loader lift capacity, the hydraulic pump is the thing that will determine the capacity. So DON'T compare HP ratings and think that they are the thing that gives you your lifting power."

My understanding is that this is not true. Your pump determins the speed at which the implements will operate, the size of the cylinders determins their capacities.

Lift power is determined by diameter of the cylinders as well as the pressure relief setting. The pump volume determines the speed. Now having said that, WE have really helped fog things up. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
