John Deere 4100
I have a JD 4100 and it quit running. Been acting like this for about a week. I did some research and more confused than before.
I dont know if my 4100 has a thermister on it?
I can see there was some activity on the fuel cutoff solenoid.

It was cracking and wouldn't start. (new fuel filter replace, got gas)
Now it won't even turn over and the battery has over 12v on the meter.

The biggest issue if I have to change the Fuel Cutoff solenoid, where can I find the best way to replace and getting to that back bolt?

Ain't just full of question. Desperate and need some expert advise and direction where to go.
Thanks for any advise

If i remember right, it doesn't have a thermister, it has a fuel control module, I have a PDF of the shop tech manual you're welcome to, it has all the wiring and trouble shooting for the fuel system in it.

shoot me your email and it's on the way

the fuel cutoff will not stop it from turning over just will not let it have any fuel. If it is not turning over at all then it is caused by something other than the fuel shutoff.

If it is the same as my 4200 & 4300 then you can get to the back bolt with a 1/4" drive socket and extension

Thank you for all the information. I will try and replace my fuel solenoid as your direction.

Check your solenoid before buying a new one.

On my 4200 there is a baffle that must be removed to access the back bolt.

I had forgotten that. It has the fuel filter mounted to it

I think the layout of your engine is similar to mine (4110). I believe reaching the rear bolt required a series of ¼ inch drive extensions and a universal joint lightly taped (mine flops around). Had to snake it in from rear between all components located on that side. Wasn't impossible but it took some time; as I recall, not much clearance between the barrel of the solenoid and the block assembly, I seem to remember trying first with a 3/8 extension and not having enough room. Good luck.

BTW, the ohms on the new replacement didn't match what was listed in the shop manual. Could just be the 3 multi meters I tested it with.......but I'd test the old one on the bench with 12 volts before giving up on it. Discussed that in an old post, https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...ing/344528-4110-15-et-al-fuel.html?highlight= . Also a better picture. Reading it reminded me I had to work around a block heater, so if you don't have one installed things might be easier

Don’t know if it was mentioned that the solenoid has an opening amperage that drops out for a lessor holding amperage.

There are times a seal on the solenoid can leak internally and stop it from working.

On my 4200 applying a heat gun to the solenoid and tapping it lightly seems to make it work again. ( actually I use a little propane torch. )
