I got my 4100 new and now when I go to the dealer to get the hyd filter they try to hand me a fatter filter that I do not think will fit if/when the front PTO is being used by the mower etc. Just by measuring, it looks like the collar on the mower pto collar will either rub or be very close to the filter. The original filter was 3" in dia and longer. I told them this and they got me the skinnier filter. Does anyone have any info on this and will the fatter one work on a 4100? Also, WIX etc always cross references to the fatter one so I am SOL as far as aftermarket goes.....unless the fatter one will work. I am wondering if the 4100 has its own filter because of the clearance down there and is it different from others?

Oil filter or Hyd filter, oil is on right side of tractor just ahead of your foot, hyd is on rear not too far from the pto shaft----which are you talking about for sure?

I'll bet the 4100 hyd filter is the same as what's on my 4010. On the 4010, it's to the right and below the PTO, behind the lower shaft that holds the lower lift arms for the 3 ph. You have to remove one rear wheel to slide the shaft out of the way. Last time I changed it, the dealer gave me the wrong filter. Have saved the boxes and will take those with me the next time.

Are you talking about the oil filter? They often come in different sizes from different vendors. On my 4010, there's barely enough room to either slide a chain wrench or a 3-fingered oil filter wrench onto or around it. There's not enough room for a strap wrench. They really ought to put an indent into which a sock drive would fit or a tack a bolt onto it like they did on our old Studebaker spin-on filters. The 3 finger wrench from NAPA works fine.

Solution Number: 17854

Solution Summary: CANCELED 4100 Compact Utility Tractor- Mid PTO Drive Shaft Contacts Filter And Cooler Line.

Publication Date: Aug 11 2003

COMPLAINT:

When installing the mid PTO drive shaft, the oil cooler line is in the way and the hydrostatic oil filter won't allow the shaft to be installed on the output shaft.

PROBLEM:

1. The oil cooler line is routed in the way of the drive shaft for the front PTO kit. It is not in the way for the mid mower drive.

2. The collar on the mid PTO drive shaft hits the filter preventing the shaft from going onto the output shaft.

SOLUTION:

1. The cooler line can be pushed over to the right side of tractor for clearance. Do not force too far and kink the line.

2. The drive shaft can be installed if you hold the drive shaft slightly away from the filter (toward you). Oscillate the u-joint to aim the coupler toward the output shaft. Slide the coupler onto the shaft.
