Jim,

I was in your shoes last year about this time--waiting for my 4010 to come in.

It's a great tractor and while the 4110 would be nice, my numbers were close to yours in that it would have cost between $1500 and $2000 to go up one step. I'm sure you will find (as I did) that this tractor will do a lot of work.

I just finished tilling up a large piece of land the used to be pasture. I'm not sure how I got along without this machine.

Bob,

It's good to hear from other 4010 owners. There are 2 JD dealers within 20 miles of me and neither one has seen a 4010. Both said, when they order a small chassie for their inventory, they get a 4110. I haven't seen one myself, let alone tried one out, so there's a bit a-of-leap-faith here. I've tried out a 4110 and 4100 (prior years at the dealer, I envy the guys who get to try them at home before they buy) so at least I'm familiar with the platform. I might have ended up with 4110 if either one had one the lot because like I said, the wait is killing me.

Thanks Chief and JTC...I did speak with another dealer today and hopefully it will work out with the closer dealer in the end.

Is the imatch worthwhile ?

That price is roughly what I paid for my newly acquired 4010. I got mine with the foldable ROPS, 410 loader with 61" bucket, 60" MMM, turfs, and loaded tires in place of the ballast box. I have about 9 hrs on mine so far. -Love it.

I work for a rather large heavy highway construction company and will tell you that CAT is more than the name. We also have several Hitachi, Volvo, Eculid, Komatsu and other assorted varities. We have 2 Eculid 90 Ton rock trucks with 8000 hours and 2 Cat 100 ton trucks with 31000 hours on the same job. The senior drivers always run the Cats. We do have some good Komatsu hoes and the Volovo artic trucks are real good trucks but it's hard to beat CAT. I work maintenance and I can tell you, in general, there is less down time with the yellow iron.

Re:CAT

...I did not say that CAT is only a name, I said you will pay more
anytime a product has name recognition, regardless of the quality.
Most companies with name recognition have built reputations
on quality over time, hence the reason they have that recognition.
CAT is no different.....

Re:CAT

Just like with JD people buy the garden tractors for the name and not the quality like the LT 150 etc. Crappy Kohler and Briggs motors. Not like the Kawasakis used in the mid 90s.

Re:CAT

I've got a crappy 216 with a 16hp Kohler and the green machine is falling apart while the motor sounds like new! Regular maintenance is all it took! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

But yes. I've heard good things about the Kowasaki as well... though from personal experience, I like the Kohler.
