Mowing JD 3320 PTO trouble

My dad has a 3320 with the cab and a belly mower he has been having a lot of problems with. For the third time he has had to take it apart because a pin falls out and he moves the deck and it bends almost everything underneath. Well he got it put back together this time and all looks to be as it should be but the PTO (Mid or Rear) will come on. He tells me that the light is on that indicates the PTO is working but it is not turning. All the normal sensors work relating to the PTO that will keep it from coming on or keep the tractor from starting. But if you sit in the seat and do it the right way, the tractor "thinks" it is working. Anyone have a clue on how I could help him out? Where should he look or what to do?
Please excuse the fact that I am not there and can't visualize everything he is telling me. Sorry to be so vague about some details.

Good that you are trying to help Dad figure out what is not going right. At this point, his dealer should be involved in tracking down the problem of the "pin" falling out, what may have happened when everything bends and may not be straight again, plus what is giving wrong signals regards the PTO.

There is a service tech manual available for that tractor, and it may be real helpful for you to help Dad out, or get him one. Comes as a CD.

Either from the dealer, or google it and maybe find an online source.
