Doesn't matter what brand...if you plan on doing a lot of loader work, HST is the way to go!

As to front end being light on a tractor you will find that my guess in vast majority of tractors with no fel or front weights with anything near max load on the lift. I have a 27 and 68 hp Kubota with front weights and at times my 68 hp could use a little more and have 91 hp JD with no front weights oh wait had fel on it. The hp they get from today's engines has greatly reduce the size and weight of the engines. With all the speeds they now have on tractors think the engine lost weight and the transmission gained weight moving the weight more towards the rear lift.

What are the pros/cons of mechanical injection that the Branson has? I know nothing about what that means.

The Cummins style engine is not computer controlled. It is a simple engine. No computer to flash, no electronics in the injection pump, mechanical injectors, etc. It does have a wire that goes to the pump to shut off or turn on the fuel, but that is about it. The con would be that an electronically controlled injection pump/system can be a little more efficient. It can inject fuel multiple times per stroke, it can monitor fuel needs better, etc. One is old school, the other is modern. If nothing goes wrong with the computerized fuel injection system, if you could somehow rule out electrical glitches and reflashes etc, then the computerized system gives you a little better performance and will burn cleaner.

We sell Branson and Mahindra. Mahindra is very cool in that they have no DPF. They have a more complex common rail computer controlled diesel and by getting this thing to burn really clean, they avoided the need for a DPF. So they went complex on the engine and simple on the after treatment. Branson did the opposite, simple engine with a DPF to clean up the particulate matter. Time will tell which is better.

Mechanical injection means that at 2500# or whatever is the setting, the seal inside the injector is pushed off it's seat and a blast of fuel squirts out. Electronic is just an electrical impulse to an electomagnetically controlled device that controls the squirt. Latter is much easier to control and makes for much better performance and hp per cu in. all things being equal otherwise.....don't have to "hope" that the timing of the squirt coincides with when the compression stroke is ready for it.

The Cummins engine is what sealed the deal for me: Naturally aspired (no turbo), mechanical, direct (injector tip is in the main combustion chamber) injection, 4 cylinders for 65 hp, adequate cubic inches for good torque, the fact that I have had Cummings before (800 cu in 400 hp Big Cam with turbo), and they have built more than 1 million engines world wide (through licensing of other manufacturing installations).

On other engines in other tractors, the only one I know about is Yanmar. I recall passing a Yanmar tractor dealer back in the 1970's-80's time line on the way to work, back when foreign tractors were first (to me) getting a foothold here. They have been here for a long time and have survived and flourished......Quality survives the test of time......must have what it takes!
