JD 300 Industrial
Good afternoon,

I recently purchased a John Deere 300 Industrial tractor w/ loader.
I have been working through the leaks and have fixed a few.
It is leaking from the power steering shaft out the side of the transmission.
I found this thread which helped me locate and purchase the correct seal. (it wont let me post this link until I have 3 posts but it was a link to a tractorbynet thread)

I noticed in that thread that when he replaced his seal, it was still leaking because the oil was coming through the shaft splines where his seal wasnt seated.
When I opened the inspection port on mine and went to loosen the steering arm bolt, it was loose already.
Is this what my steering arm and shaft should look like when tight or should these two parts be flush?
It looks to me like the shaft is recessed about 3mm and possibly that is why it is leaking?

Thanks for reading this post and I hope you have a good evening.

Here is my result after tightening the bolt. I assume it is seated correctly.
I will work to replace the seal and will post a video of the process. At the moment, I just need to locate a longer bolt which is required to thread in and knock out the shaft from the steering arm.

Welcome to TBN
Seal(key 18) should seal off oil before oil gets in contact with splines. Spines on shaft & lever are tapered so shaft when splines are tight should remain recessed in lever.

Thanks! Your information was helpful so that I knew for sure that it didn't need to be seated further.

I got the new seal in. It took probably 4 hours and was really quite a project.
I'm about to start it up and check for leaks.
Now that I have 3 posts, ill post a link to the video of changing it after I get it edited.

I have a JD 2030 and there was a change to the washer and bolt, and bolt torque spec.
Original washer was about 1/4" thick and the bolt was 1 1/4" long torque 170lb-ft.
New washer is over 1/2" thick, bolt is now 1 3/4" long and torque spec is 240lb ft.
This change helped my steering wobble at speed. I did not expect it to work, but it really helped.
An industrial tractor my already have these parts?
I am guessing the loose bolt let the steering shaft move enough to ruin the seal?
