Anyone have a JD 290 that could offer a bit of advice for a first timer?
I have thousands of hours with other implements but ZERO experience operating a corn planter and just purchased one that previous owner says plants great but has issue with the power lift sometimes raising or lowering on its own. That issue can be something I try to figure out later as there appears to be a manual workaround (ie get off tractor at end of each row and undo the keeper wire) but for now any operating tips or suggestions?
I do have the owners manual and plan to read that, but looking for some real world tips that might save me some frustration and time.
I plan to plant corn and beans primarily for some wildlife food plots and plan to till first. This unit does NOT have the fertilizer bins.
