JD 2755 trans oil light

I have a JD 2755 hi/lo trans, after it gets up to operating temp with the pto on and the hi/lo selector in hi the trans oil light comes on, only at an idle. If you bring the engine speed up it goes off, or if you kick the hi/lo into lo. However it does not always go off when you turn the pto off, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. Also when this happens there is a knocking noise that grows with engine speed, it also goes away after a few seconds of elevated engine speed.

I believe when the light comes on it is a flow issue, I have tested pressure and it is sufficient (2000+psi) I dont have a flow gauge so I cant do that. I have changed the filter and cleaned the screen.

The front pump was rebuilt in 2004, and probably has 1000 hrs on it.

There is no hay this year so I want to get this fixed

I assume you changed the fluid.
Is your transmission a collar shift or synchro?

That knocking sound is disturbing, it could be a bearing, which would not be good! It could be a constriction somewhere in the transmission oil passages.

Fluid was done at the beginning of the season, prob 200 hrs on it.
I pulled the screen out of the belly today, there wasn't much in it but I cleaned it any way. I also pulled the screen out of the front pump and replaced it.
Its a synchro with hi/lo
If I ever get to put any hours on it this season (hay fields are dead) I will get a flow meter and test the rear pump, it doesnt come on for a few seconds after reurning to idle so I am thinking it is draining the front resevoir and then the light is kicking on.
