A buddy of mine has a JD 270 Series 2 (8500 lb tire machine) with just over 400 hours sitting in his barn. He has a new set of over the tire tracks and a 8 to 11 foot extend-a-hoe for it. He wants $12k for the whole set up.

I've looked and saw that the original 200 skid steers were described as "run away, do not buy, junk, electrical nightmare, hydraulic lines blow constantly, boat anchor..." but what about the series II?

Would you go $12,000 in on this series 2 8500 lb 81HP machine with low hours? He did not option the high flow or the 2 speed, so it's the low flow and 5mph only. He did option rear weights, backhoe and tracks, tracks were never installed. It's been inside his shop it's entire life aside from when working some years ago. It's been sitting for years as he has other newer track skid steers and excavators for his business and this thing is just a door stop to him. He says we can go start it with a jump box and it runs and works 100%.

Buy it or not.... that is the question.

Not sure why the pictures will not load multiples in a single post.

Damn. I had hoped that some of you may have an opinion on this machine. I've got to decide today since I tasked to my Kubota dealer about buying a L3901 TLB and don't want them to start gathering parts for it if I'm not actually buying it.

If he is original owner and you truly have a need for it try offering 11k ? Too bad its not a two speed . For that size machine they came with good hp , and of course no def . Too bad no ac either . Them over the tire tracks could be worth 1k easily . I have seen them engines easily get over 3K hrs . I'd offer him 11K in a mild manner and try to buy it . Even at 12K I might bite . Series II way better . Dont over think it I wouldnt let it get away . I know guys that pay 12k a year in property taxes , and one that pays 8k a month in alimony and child support . I think its worth the risk buyin it . I would . It looks clean . Pressure was her , she will look pretty .

I think the JD Pro 911extender extend-a-hoe is worth 5k alone....

He's the original owner, and 450-ish original hours.

I'm assuming another grand for battery, filters and fluids. Maybe belts and hoses.

Go grab that thing before I do. I've been looking to buy a skid steer for a few weeks now, and I haven't found a machine like that listed for under $22k....and they usually have over 2500hrs on them. $12k is a steal

Thats a heck of a deal for a low hr functional SS in that class, the BH and tracks are a bonus. The extendable 911 bh's seem to go for around 3-4k in good condition, there's not a lot of information on them that I could find though so not sure how well they work (was looking at buying one recently to put on the back of my tractor).

If you have a need for a skid steer then I'd jump on it for that price. Is this to supplement the 2650 or replace it?
