Looks Great Harley!

Did you cut some material out of the tube so it could fold without interference, or just raise the top a little for clearance?

THKS.

Re: JD 2305 Folding ROP\'s Done

Ron, I made the pivot center line, line up exactly with the split line of the ROPs and lowered the top of the lower brackets 1/8" to allow for a tight fit between the top and bottom sections and no interference when folding. I also added a plate and ground it off smooth to cap off the bottom fixed sections of the ROP's, it looks better and there is no chance of getting anything (like fingers) caught in the holes when it is folded down. By the way I used a 4-1/2" grinder and 3./32" cut off wheel to cut the ROPs in half this removed very little from the height of the bar.

I did mine a little different. I used three pieces of 3/8 iron for each hinge and 'latch'.

Harley,

Very nice, and a great post with excellent pics.

As for that last pic, I can't make it out. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: JD 2305 Folding ROP\'s Done

Very nice job. Good idea too. Folding ROPS work great but dont forget to put them down when you are entering a building with a shorter door then the ROPS are. I know that from personal experence with crazylare1's 3320. We spent about 3 hours fixing the garage door. I see that you are the kind of person that makes it if you can't get it. That's a good thing.

Re: JD 2305 Folding ROP\'s Done

JDFanatic-- If you are refering to my picture, I apologize for the poor quality. My digital camera is a cheepie and doesn't do closeup with flash very well. When I can get better light , etc. I will see if'n I can get some better pics so you can see the way I did it. It consists of two parallel straps welded on one piece, and a single strap welded to the other piece to fit between the two on the first. Then holes were drilled to make the hinge. Then used the same method for the "latch". For the Hinge pins, I used 1/2 inch shoulder bolts with nylock nuts, and for the "latch" pins, I used 1/2 inch pins with "hairpin" clips.

JDF --here are the better pics that I promised to show when I got a chance. Hope you can see what I did a lot better than in my previous pics. I do think that I like Mr. HarleyScooter's idea a little better than mine; but, I had already done mine so it will have to stay that way until next winter anyway. Don
