I have purchased a used JD 2210 with FEL, Box Blade, and 54 C Belly Mower. I have a manual for the tractor but not for the Belly Mower. I want to remove the Belly Mower to service the tractor and do whatever lubrication is needed for the mower. I can see the side pins which need to be removed as well as the front bar attachment point near the front wheels. What is involved in disconnecting from the drive shaft? Are there other steps to removing and reattaching the mower which I may be missing?

Thanks!

Just reach in and pull the outside collar of the driveshaft toward the front of the tractor and the shaft will slide off the PTO spline. To restore, just align the spline and collar grooves and push the collar firmly to the rear and it will lock in. Give the shaft a tug toward the front to ensure the collar is locked. The manual is online at the JD site at:

What jsb2b said.
I have the 62C MMM on my 2305, but I think they are similar, if so, turn your anti-scalping wheels 90 degrees before you lower and remove the deck. Also, if you put your PTO selector in the rear PTO position, you will be able to turn the mid PTO shaft, which makes it easier to align the splines when you re-install the mower shaft.

Thanks, so much for your quick reply and helpful directions! I found the manual you described and have printed it.

I'm the one who posted that template.
Did you make one for your tractor?

You've probably already figured all this out but here's a step by step.

Start the tractor and lift the deck.

Rotate the height adjustment knob to the install position, this allows the deck to be lowered to the ground.

Rotate each wheel to the sideways position so the deck can be rolled out from under the tractor. There's a hole in each wheel adjustment stem to lock in place.

Lower the deck to the ground/floor. Shut off tractor engine.

Remove the front bracket first. This will take the forward pressure off the lift arms.

Unpin each side lift arm.

Unfasten PTO shaft as explained earlier. You must hook your fingers on the collar and pull it toward the front of the tractor to release the catch mechanism and continue pulling forward to unspline the shaft.

Start the tractor and lift the 3pt to the highest position and turn the deck height adjustment knob to the lock position. This locks the deck lift arms up out of the way.

Pull the deck out from under the tractor toward the right side (deck discharge side).

After a couple times you'll figure out this system and it's really easy. Especially if you have smooth concrete. The hardest part of installation is getting the PTO shaft on completely. Until the collar snaps back into it's rearward position the shaft isn't on all the way. Enjoy. :)

that pic is awesome

in addition to ovrszd's comments

because i am very lazy i use a wheeled auto jack to lift the butt end of the tractor to ease sliding the deck out - on my deck, the gear box just hits my BH subframe on the way in and out

only jack steel frame points not the aluminum trany case

and avoid changing the deck on soft surfaces

be careful lifting and pulling it is very easy to pull muscles

check your battery area and give it a baking soda bath

inspect the terminal clamps for cracks

grease the front axle pivot point and all other fittings

check the screen in front of the radiator

has your 2210 had the fluid changes at 50 and 200 hrs????
