Hi. I am new to the website and have a question regarding my recent purchase of a 2005 JD 2210. I would like to add a 12 volt receptacle to power a pull-behind sprayer. I was wondering if anyone out there had added this to their 2210. If so, my questions are:

a) What brand of 12 volt receptacle did you buy? I had a X485 that I traded in that had a Marinco 12 volt unit on it and I found one online that seems to be the same one.

b) Where did you mount it?

c) How did you wire it up?

d) Did you add a switch or just leave it "hot" all the time? I suppose one could wire it into the lights, if desired, and use the light switch to power the sprayer pump off and on.

This is a great website. I have already printed out the threads about greasing the engine / tranny driveshaft u-joints. Good stuff!!!

Thank you very much.

Welcome to TBN:D

I added one, mounted in the rear under the seat. It's powered from the battery through a 30 amp relay that also power my added on lights. You should never:

The factory wiring and switches are sized only for what comes equipped-there is not much extra capacity.

kennyd,

Based on the number of posts you have, I wasn't too surprised to see you were the first to respond to my post. Thank you much !!

Based on your reply and looking at your thread re: adding ROPS lights, I think I will do the following:
1. run a 10 gauge wire from either the battery or starter to the outlet.
2. install a 20 amp inline fuse (should it be a 30 amp?) on the 10 gauge wire in 1. above.
3. attach outlet ground wire to appropriate ground (also use 10 gauge wire on this)

Will this work OK?

Thanks again,
Iowaarn

Yes, that will work fine...but if your only intention is to run sprayer then the 10GA wire is overkill. Just use 12GA, and fuse or CB protect it at 20 amps. The sprayer should only draw 3 or 4 amps I think. Add a switch if you want-just make sure it's rated for 20 amps. You can get nice outlets at boating/marine stores like West Marine if you have that in your area.

As always, we love to see pictures;)

Great advice, thank you. This project is not on the immediate horizon, so the pictures may take a while.

Thanks again.

I have not done it for the tractor yet, but plan to. Powerlet makes excellent receptacles, including some that are weather proof. I have used them on motorcycles. cyclegadgets.com has a good selection, but I am sure there are other sources.

Thanks for the info - I will check it out.

In looking around my 2210, I am thinking of putting the outlet in my instrument panel, installing it in place of a small cover plate just to the right of the steering wheel. It all depends on how accessable that area is.

Instrument panel may not be a good choice if you plan to plug in a wire to run back to a pull-behind sprayer. Tripping and tangling could be an issue.

On other mowers I have owned that didn't have a 12 volt outlet, I have used battery clips to run the sprayer. To avoid tripping, etc. I used blue tape and taped the wires down to the frame, body panels, etc. I would do the same on my 2210. A reason for the IP mount is that then I would have easier access to the inline on-off switch that is located between the plug and the sprayer. Another reason is that the hot wire coming from the starter/battery does not have so far to go compared to a rear mount. Not a big difference, but just personal preference, I guess.

That is the cover next to the red parking brake handle? If so that is a good place. I mounted two switches there on my neighbors 2210 when we did his ROPS lights (similar to my setup). On my 4110 that is the cruise control lever.
