JD 2155, given to me, sitting for some time.Help

First post, I was given a 2155, i'd guess a 89-90 model yellow, with a 7ft mower. Its been sitting for a few years and need a few things replaced, I have cleaned it up and gone over basic things on the outside. Right now I'm getting into the hydraulic oil, Last night I replaced the Load Control shaft seals. I got about a gallon of hydraulic oil out of the rear drain, I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be a lot more in there. I was going to refill it but I noticed a leak in some plastic hose running from the cooler up front that goes to the firewall, and then into a "Y" splitter and from there to a metal line and the other goes under the floor plate. I'm wondering if I should replace it with new plastic line or take the time to bend some brake lines so I dont have to worry about dry rot and breaks.

Any ideas on what to do about a missing hood cover, other that a brand new one for 300 bucks?

The Mad Scientist in me wants to upgrade and modify things, anyone have any ideas?

If I were you, I would keep things simple and on the cheap side, till I found out just exactly what I had, such as what kind of condition the tractor is in, and then go hog wild if everything seems fine. You can always upgrade from there. zman

Thanks, I'll do what I can figuring it out. Is one maintenance manual as good as another? or is there a better copy to buy ?

Would I be better off looking for a FEL made for it, or one of these custom designs ?

Same for a backhoe, any have a preference on going with a 3 point or pull behind ?

Any Ideas on what to do about the plastic return line from the hydraulic cooler? It looks like any plastic water line you see at Home depot.

If I were you I would first see if the tractor has an open or closed hyd.system I believe it is a closed system and by the time you get the tractor going and operating corectley you might have some money invested in it already.Then comes the FEL and backhoe if it's a closed system you might have a problem finding those in closed center used.
