Looked at a JD 1840. Would like some information.

Years these were made?

HP

Any problems these tractors have?

What are their strong points?

Any help you can give is appreciated.

Is the Deere 1840 a Canadian or European import by chance? I can't find any info on it. I would guess that it is a Cologne-built tractor, about 50-hp.

I found a couple of 1840 Deere tractors on TractorHouse.com. They do indeed look to be European tractors.

The 1840 tractors have 4-cyl. engines and are about 60-hp. from what I can tell. Probably comparable to the US-marketed sloped-hood 2440, 2350, 2550, or 2355 models. Go to your local Deere dealer to enquire about parts availability for a John Deere 1840. I would guess that the majority will interchange with one of the above US-models.

TractorData indicates it is the same as a 2440, it was imported into Canada.

What local dealer?
I just came frome there and the've went out of business and closed up shop!

Mannhiem built version of US 2440 from the early 80s. Good decent tractors. Dealers in US might not support them though.
