JD 1840/2440 Question - start safety switch location

I have a 1840 (same as 2440) and it runs well, no issues and all of a sudden no start, no way, with the ignition circuits. The battery is good and starter contacts are all tight and I suspect it is electrical, as I can hotwire it and it pops right off.

I suspect that the start safety switch may be u/s or the wire lose. Where would I find that sensor and wire located, is it located under the metal cover surrounding the shift quadrant? Going to go looking for it, but would like to be looking in the right spot.

Remove cowling that the gear shift levers protrude through. NS switch(key 8) will be located in LH front corner of rockshaft housing that covers trans shafts & rear gear/pinion. Sometimes one can remove a sealing washer or 2 then reinstall switch & it will operate correctly.

Thanks Jim, I will pull the cover and look for it. Is there a hot wire attached to the switch?

You're welcome. There are supposed to be 2 wires attached to switch neither should have voltage until key switch is turned to start position.

Thanks again Jim, I suspect that the issue is a loose connection and I will pull that cover soonest to rectify the problem.

Problem solved, just a loose connection on the start safety sensor switch.
