Well after 35 years the bolts (JD calls them cap screws) that attach the blades to the spindles have rounded heads. You would think I could get a couple more years use out of them. My local JD charged $2 for the two replacement cap screws. I was able to use an extractor to loosen the bolts without removing the deck.

Not a bad price in today's market. In fact, that's down-right cheap. I think the complete name is Socket Head Cap Screws. These have a round head with a female hex hole. An "Alen Wrench" or "Alen Socket" is used to install and remove. It's a good idea to put a daub of grease in the hole to keep the hole from rusting. They used to have caps you could install to keep them clean, but I haven't seen those in years.
