Have a new to me jd 14t Baler. The oil seal where the plunger crank shaft enters the transmission (for lack of a better word) is leaking. I posted earlier today looking for advice but for some reason all messages got erased? Anyway...I tore into this today and now realize the entire transmission must be removed and crankshaft needs to be pressed out to replace that seal. So far I have everything all disconnected and ready to lift out with one exception. I can't figure out how the crankshaft housing on the pickup head side of crank comes off. I removed the gear and 4 bolts, but how does it get removed from crank?...do I use a puller on this thing. Can't find and retaining clips of any kind. Hopefully somebody here has done this before and can advise...Dam this is a lot of work for a $10.00 seal!!!

Welcome to TBN
Have you removed snap ring(key 4) that holds brg on crankshaft? I will guess a 3 jaw puller will be needed to get brg off of shaft.

Ok...so I did find the snap ring. Apparently I need better lighting in the shop or new glasses. I removed it, but it only holds the bearing in place, not the housing. I have managed to remove housing with a puller and some heat, and brute force. The housing simply slides over the bearing by press fit. I guess after 50 or 60 years it is no longer a press fit, but the good news is I got it out. Hooked up engine hoist and found it easier to drop tranny through bottom of machine rather than lifting out the top. So, I have brought the hole thing to a local machine shop to have crankshaft pressed out. I asked them to be careful with case gasket because it appears the are no longer available. I have search every resource I could find on the net with no luck. I bet someone has one hanging on a wall collecting dust somewhere...Machine shop is straight out...so it will be a week before they get to it. I still can't believe all this work for one seal!!

It probably would have been worth a try...especially if I had realized how involved this was going to be. It was a pretty serious leak though... I'm not sure that would have cured the problem...
