John Deere 1140
Hi Everyone,

Are there any wise JD owners who can suggest the cause of the following problem? The instrument cluster on my old JD1140 has gone completely dead. None of the guages or indicator lights are working, nor are the alarm buzzers. I can start the engine OK, and the other electrics (eg the headlights) are working fine. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

Denis

Do you have a electrical schematic of the tractor so you can find out where any fuses might be to the panel? A simple check of the fuses would be the easiest start.

No I don't have a wiring diagram, and I'm struggling to find one on the net. The fuses seem Ok as far as I can tell. I wondered whether there might be a relay that's sticking. I say that because a couple of times in the past the instrument panel has gone dead then come back when I've switched the key on and off a few times.

My newest tractor, not a JD, has fuse panels in three places so a electrical diagram would be a huge help. Might also be in the ignition switch itself. Hopefully some JD experts will post in soon.....

Since he said turn the key on & off sometimes fixed it, I am thinking ign switch too.

Check for good ground connection for instrument cluster.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll check the ground connection next. I'd ruled out the possibility of a faulty ignition switch on the grounds that I was able to start the tractor and control the lights with it, and I assumed that neither of those would be possible if the switch itself was dud.

All the best
