Good Day All,
I have a John Deere 110 Backhoe and recently whenever I am driving in all wheel drive and change direction (front to back) there is a big "click" sound that sounds like its coming from the under the seat. It doesnt even engage sometimes and just sounds like soemthing is spinning. I checked all the linkages and they seem fine. Would it have to do with the axel Trunion torque bolts??
Thanks in advance
Mark

Check the front axle pivot pin thrust bolt. Lift the frt end up and torque to spec. Just a thought mine needed adj a couple times and i would get a clunk when change direction

Any problems with the rear differential lock? Noises when you engage it? Or does it engage - pedal remain extended and down?

Thanks for your reply. The rear diff lock seems to be working fine. It engages where the pedal remains down but when you switch direction it disengages if ur not holding down the pedal.

Does the tractor "click, clunk" when in 2WD while moving from reverse to forward or vice versa?

No, it only did it in 4x4 and now it doesnt even engage enough to clunk.

Can anyone tell me which is the front axle pivot pin thrust bolt?? Is it on the front side or back side of the front axel??
Thanks

The front axle trunion adjustment is important... but, it's generally something that only requires attention after a fair number of hours on the tractor.

However, it appears that your problem is more complicated than just the front axle adjustment!

If you don't have 1.) Technical Repair manual or 2.) Part's catalog for your 110; I'd suggest that you go on-line to the JD part's catalog site. You can access detailed diagrams of the various components and systems for your tractor that will greatly help you to troubleshoot the problem you're currently wrestling with.

my 3320 had a click clunk noise underneath at only 46 hours. It turned out to be after a lot of checking other things that the frt axle pivot pin thrust bolt on the frt side of axle was very loose, I adjusted that and problem was gone. However you might want to check the splined couplers that join the front driveshaft with the frt differential and also at the trans and frt shaft. There have been a few people that found the roll pin missing from the splined coupler and then the coupler slid back and forth on shaft and wore the splines off and would give them noise underneath and eventually inoperative 4wd. It is definitely worth checking out
