Does anyone know the Horsepower of the JD 1050? Was it a model that was reliable? Were they produced in large numbers?

Check out Machinery Link. They'll give you some good information on HP (in the low or mid thirties, I think), weight (~ 3500#, as I recall), etc., as well as some pricing info and even how to determine the model year of the particular 1050 you're considering. As to the reliability, I've heard them described as "bulletproof" by people who own then and by people who work on Deere products. I looked very seriously at those when I was shopping. I think they're a fine machine. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Nebraska test #1327 rates it at 33.4 HP. 3 cyl turbodiesel.

"Bulletproof" is a good description from everyone I've talked with that has one.

Gary and pfoxy, Thanks for the info. My Cousins husband has one and cosmetically it sure looks rough, they have had it 10 or 12 years. They don't have any manuals on it though. Their 1050 has held up well and I wondered how others had been ? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I just took our 1050 at work out today. It doesn't get used much these days, only to pull a dump trailer, but still started right up and was able to haul a large load of heavy wet sand just fine. Its got over 2900 hours on it, and looks to have had a very rough life, much like some of our other tractors.

I think you can still get the manuals from John Deere. There is a phone number you can call (I don't know where I put it) or your dealer can order it for you. Either way it arrives on your door step a couple of days later. They are a little expensive but well worth it the first time you need it.

I have a 950. Next size smaller than the 1050. 950 has 27 hp PTO, no turbo. Mine has 2100 hours and is a great machine. Strong enough to do all I need. Small enough to get into some pretty tight places.
