JD 1020 switch-box problems

Hi, I have an old JD 1020. Which now days I sudenly had quite big brake and I pushed in the second speed (Hi), starting that moment - the gaerbox os blocking frequently, is hard to change the speeds, one of the speeds mainly the second one - is not working well. Its seems to me if the switch levers would be mixed with one each other, something is not at this own location. And, if I go down the hill, the gearbox remains in the neutral position, there is not anymore engine braking....

What could be the problem?!

Which type trans does your 1020 have? 1-2-3-4 with manually shifted low & high or same with hyd high/low which yields 16 forward speeds??
