I'm in the process of fixing up a JD 1020. All that's left is the leaky hydraulic pump. The manual says "Using socket extention, reach up through hole in front support and loosen cap screw on pump drive assembly. Remove attaching cap screws and lift pump away from tractor". OK, the four cap screws (bolts) are out no issue there. I can see the hole in the front support but have no idea what size socket is needed. It's in a tight spot and not being as agile as I was 50 years ago I was hoping someone would know the socket size and if it was easy to get to.

I'm thinking a 9/16 socket... if this cap screw is key # 2 on drive shaft key# 1 and that cap screw is a 3/8 bolt.

I've taken off three in the last year. Cant say it was difficult. I will do another one this month because it leaks somewhere up there. He wants to change to electronic ignition too. So when the parts get here, I'll take it down.

Thanks everyone. I'll get back to it when it warms up a bit. Unfortunately there's no heat in the pole barn!
