it's time to put the rear tire v-bar chains on and get ready for some _ _ _ _ (i don't like using four letter words) plowing. last year i did it without jacking up the tractor..... what a PITA.....

i am looking for advice as to the best point(s) to place the floor jack so that i don't damage the tractor. there is nothing in the manual. i wasn't sure if i should go off of the BH frame and lift the entire rear end at once or if i should go off of the axle and do one side at a time. also, any input on the front end points would be appreciated as well.

as usual, thank you all in advance for your input....

happy tractoring to all.

jim

You really won't hurt the tractor by lifting from either of those points. Afterall, when you lift the tractor with the backhoe stabilizers, you're lifting it by the subframe bracket as well. (actually, why don't you do it that way? Pick up the tractor with the hoe stabilizers.)

You can also lift by the axle shafts, and even the cast iron axle housing, BUT, be careful when doing that so you don't put the jack against any bolt heads. You could damage them, or snap them off completely. Axle shafts or backhoe bracket would be my first choice.

I wouldn't lift the whole rear end at once, because it could get tipsy, (though I have done this myself!) If you do try that, lift the front of the tractor a little with the loader to keep it from pivoting on the from axle.

Agreed, don't try to lift in the center of the rear, gets really tipsy. I guess you could compensate with loader on the ground, but I would not do that.

One wheel at a time makes sense.

thanks guys,

the BH is off for the winter so i can't use the stabilizers.... i guess i'll try on the BH frame and see how that works out

I just put my v-bars on the front and rear tires yesterday.
I too hate that job. I found using a bunjie cord on the front end of the chains, place them on the tire and then driving forward works very well.

I found this method out by searching the TBN forums
