LS J2030H
Well im stuck, after running the machine for some period of time, i powered it down to grease it up and eat lunch. After lunch the tractor wouldnt start. I have power on the instrument cluster but the key will not start the machine. If I use my jumper cables from the hot side of the battery and touch the connector on the starter with the black and yellow stripped cable wallah it starts.

I have no LS dealers near me. the only two closed up shop and stop selling the line. LS is no help over the phone and sold me a new starter relay Which i battled with them should be under warranty since my machine is 11 months old. But the Customer service issues are a whole thread in itself.

Any one have any ideas on where to start looking? Ive checked all my connections and wires everything seems to be fine. machine has 100 hrs on it.

Have you installed the relay yet?

Have you checked all the "safety" devices . (pto switch left on, seat switch came unpluged ,etc.)

Ive checked the PTO switch its off, The seat switch is plugged in. what else is a safety switch? the 3 fuzes under the dash and the one on the starter look fine. The new relay is installed. But still I get nothing when I turn the key.

That sounds like the problem is in the ignition switch....there's only so much between the key and the starter motor. I'd look at pulling the switch, and possibly try jumping the terminals to see if it will start that way. Without the schematic, it will be a little guesswork, but should be doable.

BTW, if LS authorizes warranty work, some/most New Holland dealers will do the work.....money, is money.

Just some interlocks. I am not familiar with the J2030 but my R4010 has a clutch switch. My old CubCadet had so many troublesome and inaccessible interlock switches on it that I wound up putting a starter button on the dash. My newer replacement CC hasn't bit me yet with that issue.

so Today ive tested every switch fuze and relay and the ignition, everything checks out with my volt meter. only thing i forgot to check is the transmission neutral switch.

also I noticed when i turn my key to use the preheat, i dont hear the steriotypical starter motor relay click. Do you think its the physical magnet/relay on the starter motor?.

I can start the tractor with a jumper cable from the hot side of the battery to the ground on the starter

"Ground on the starter?" Battery to ground usually makes sparks and smoke.

I used to start my cranky old Cub with a jumper across from the starter solenoid lug that the battery cable bolts to, to the spade clip from the ignition switch (witch is the line with all those safety switches). So, this bypasses the safety interlock switches. On a machine that new, it would be best to sort out the problem and correct it. I went to the starter button because the PTO safety switches (there were two of them) were always acting up and not easy to get to.

what sucks for me is right Now Im my own dealer/repairman because LS has yet to replace the 2 dealers that stopped selling LS in mass. LS is no help over the phone, and wont even ship warrantied parts to me. There solution is well drive 5 hrs to the nearest dealer and get your machine fixed.
