This J Stevens was old in 1920 and is missing a trigger spring. I believe it is a flat spring. Have you replaced a spring in one of these old timers?

Try gunbroker.com.
Or, try Gary Thiry gun parts in Sacramento. Or, J&G Gunsmithing in Roseville/Granite Bay.

SimS, Thanks I gave them a call yesterday but they had closed. I'll call them Monday. Jack First is also good for older parts.
My father found this shotgun in a irrigation ditch in the early 1900s with all but the butt stock, he carved a new one. We used to ,shoot the old year out and the new year in, on New Years Eve. The shotgun looked so big when I was little. About 1960 something, the trigger spring went, father put a piece of rubber hose behind the trigger and it worked. I was planning to blue it, though I would replace the spring if I could find or make one.
Things look pretty tight in there I have a guess where the spring sits.

I would reconsider bluing; it might lower any value compared to a well aged patina.

Those guys at J&G have been around for years and years. They do good gunsmith work. And, they have tons of parts.

Years ago, my Dad had a CVA black powder Kentucky Rifle kit. The hammer spring broke. My Uncle crafted a new one out of a a piece he cut from a Jeep CJ3-B spring. He had the old spring as a guide. It is still in that rifle, although it does not get used very often.

RE bluing: I thought of that but by that time I hade cleaned up the action. About the spring I can't find any of the spring to use as a chinese blueprint. I do have a 4/10 maybe the spring setup is almost the same on the center break shotguns.

These guys have always been able to figure stuff out for me and a couple buddies who have used them. And they always seem to have some nice old stuff in stock(guns and parts). If you are near Tahoe, then they are 1.5 hours away.

Thanks Robert, I'll give them a call. Gun parts corp didn't have the spring.
They are close enough to drive down and see what they have. Richard

I just sent them an Email. Thanks again!

I may have found the trigger spring, got an Email from Nancy at Numrich she figures it to be an Savage Old Model 94. Sent a expanded view, sure looks like it. It depends on who you talk to when hunting a part just like at an Auto Parts Store. The price was small wouth taking a chance. I ordered it today, 7 to 10 days and we'll see. I have several guns in need of a spring of one kind or another.
