It's tree removal time!

Re: It\'s tree removal time!

I spent the weekend pulling and knocking over hackberrys, cedars, and bois d arcs with Ford 555 loader backhoe.

Yesterday my bud tried and tried to get the burn pile going withg gas and diesel.

I told him it'd be burning big time by this afternoon.

This evening this was all that was left from an all green pile of trees the size of a house. A little breeze came up and those smoldering coals lit it up.

Eddie

There is a guy with a large skid steer with a tree shear up your way. His unit also has a grapple up on the protective back frame so he is able to cut and stack. Whether he can handle trees as tall as yours seem to be I don't know. If you are interested I will search out his contact information.

When I left he was having more fun than a kid should with my tractor.

How about with a Case 580

Pine over about 10" or so is worth milling. I'd stage the bigger ones somewhere and hire a portable sawyer to mill them. Burn the little stuff and the tops.

I'd wouldn't saw em down though, push em over and cut off the stump. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: It\'s tree removal time!

I've been talking to a few loggers, and a few more land owners, trying to find somebody who will work with me and take the marketable timber that I put on the ground. It's very important to me to minimize the amount of damaget that is done. The trees that I keep, I want to protect.

I'd rather burn them then have a crew come in and destroy or damage the trees I want to save.

Unfortunately, in order to build my roads and building pads, I have to take out thousands of trees. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Here's a shot from this morning as I was knocking over a medium sized pine. I've gotten much bigger ones, but I've also been stuck on smaller ones. There's just no telling how tight the roots are into the ground.

Re: It\'s tree removal time!

In the future, this will be a nice looking pasture. The trees left standing in this shot will probably all remain. The rest will end up in my burn pit.

I'm thinking I need more diesel the next time I try burning them. I had a one gallon jug that got things good and hot, but nothing spread. I also have some pines from last year that I knocked down and have kind of ignored. I think I'll drag them into the pile and see it they can help generate enough heat to get this green stuff to burn.

Re: It\'s tree removal time!

Even when pushing them with my dozer, those trees will fight back!

This one started to fall just like it was supposed to, but for whatever reason, it sprung back. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Good thing for ROPS!!!!

Re: It\'s tree removal time!

From one of the landmarks on my survey, I'm putting in a fence 500 feet west. I start out by just pointing the dozer in that direction and clear an opening. Then I take some measurements, adjust and clean it up some.

My longest tape measure is only 100 feet long. I'm thinking about getting a longer one, but this one works pretty good, so I'm still debating it or not.

Re: It\'s tree removal time!

About 30 feet past my dozer is my property line. I'm not sure exactly where, since it's never been marked. I'll leave those trees alone to act as a natural barrier.
