The old fashioned way was to take a pointed digger bar and chip your way down thru it. You could take your hammer drill and drill several holes to make it easier to break out. (Limestone breaks pretty easy doesn't it?) I have seen people resort to renting a jackhammer to make holes in really solid rock. One thing is that if you ever get a hole and a post quikcreted in it will be there. If you have a lot of loose surface rock laying around, I have seen old timers make a round cage of wire(at least 2' across and I have seen them much larger) and stack that full of rock. There may be a trick to that I have never tried it. There are some corners built in this area that way that are at least 50 years old and still standing.

In my area you can buy a 4x4 bracket that will screw in to a deck for a railing.
You may be able to do this and use a tapcon screw, then square off the bottom of the pole to a 4x4. it may be easier then going through rock.

ok, let me run this by everybody.

I could probably dril that 1/2" hole acouple of more inches for a total of 20". Then pound a 3' rebar in the hole leaving about 1 1/2' sticking out. Then drill a hole in the bottom of the telephone post and slip it over the rebar. Instead of doing a H-brace, do a brace at the top and bottom. Do you think this would be strongest enough to pull fence from????

Will check around for the Belltec. At this point I'd pay someone $150 for three holes.

I do have a digger bar, and probably pounded for 20 minutes getting nowhere. So that theory of limestone doesn't work for this rock. Or I don't have the right tools
thanks

If you can get a 3" hole 24" deep pound heavy wall pipe in each of the holes and weld up a brace out of them.. That would stand a lot better chance than the rebar in a wood post. A series of holes punched were you want the pole really should break up the limestone enough that the chipper bar would break it out. The Beltech if you can rent or hire one would do it fairly easily. Check your local rental yard they may have something available or a local farm supply would probably know of someone who does or would do it for a fee. If that kind of stone is common in your area I'm sure there are some diggers around.;)
