Hey Scoob, your fingers twitching today. :)

The dealer for the trailer talked me out of getting a dump trailer. Originally I wanted a dump "and" be able to pull around the tractor. That meant a 7x16ft dump trailer. He said my truck would not be able to pull the weight. Truck is rated for pulling 10,000 lbs.

I wanted a dump for pulling around dirt, gravel and split firewood. But I'd also like to have a trailer to pull the tractor around (I don't live in or near a town). So if I want to make any $ with this tractor come winter, I'll need transportation.

Great minds........

Im suprised they talked you out of a dump. But they're by the book, light trailers are secondary to them, they usually sell semi trailers so they know the rules.

1643 : 3700lbs
Loader:1000?
Backhoe: 1000?

5700lbs > round up to 6000

Trailer >4000

you should be ok.

But im not a trailer guy. Maybe you can message Diamondpilot (he sells trailers) or start a thread on Trailers.Youll get more info/opinions than you want:rolleyes: Welders and trailers sure get the guys fired up on here:D

What about a gooseneck dump? might give you more capacity. I know that LWL makes them.Gooseneck Flatbed Dump, Linkletter Welding Ltd.

I was talking with Dwayne Linkletter of LWL. The Tag-Along trailer is rated at 5500 lbs. So that won't work. A summer time set up for the MF1643 with loader and backhoe goes way over that amount. The winter time set up is ok but its close, when you add in snow and ice buildup on the trailer. So I'll have to look at the next size up. He recommended a contractor series dump trailer but its only 12 ft long, and it about $8350+freight+13% taxes  Over $5G's more than the Tag-Along.

Thats a great price for that much tractor ! A couple years ago when i got a few quotes, the 1533 cab+loader was 31400 and the 1547 cab loader was 39800!

If you dont mind me asking, what did your 1643 set you back?

Sorry, I didnt know that you were running a avalanche. If i understand your last post, your not going to get the earlier tag trailer because its underrated? and step up to the 12' dump? Or are you going to get a heaver flat deck tag?

Dumps are crazy expensive as a rule. Theres a lot more steel in a quality dump than a equivalent flat trailer (good dump manufacturers overbuild, because of the added stress when dumping, plus people have a tendency to overload dumps) and the added expense of the hydraulic unit.

I don't kiss and tell when it comes to negotiating. :) I can say that Brock's reputation precedes him and I was not disappointed.

Hey, I'm not sorry I have the Avalanche. Its the best all-around truck a guy could want. :) You did understand correctly, the Tag Along Light Duty is underrated so I'll have to look whatever deck is next up the line. I'd like to have a dump big enough to transport the tractor in its various set ups, but the cost is wicked.

We were coming out of the woods this morning and a dump truck passed by with a heavy duty flat deck and a construction TLB. About the size of what we're getting. I turned to the missus and said it might be cheaper to get a used flat deck and used dump truck than a new dump trailer. :D Yes...I was pushing my luck. :D

I understand.;) I was just curious as to where Masseys prices have gone. 2 years ago we were paying much more than our american neighbours, as evidenced by my quotes and i know that the tractor dealers were trying to get our prices lower to try and reduce cross border shopping.

Good luck trying to get the wife onboard for the dumptruck.:)

Cash rebates made it very enticing, it sealed the deal.

I'm not even on board for a dump truck. But I do have her convinced on another pickup truck with 8ft box, then we could slide in one of those hydraulic dumps as we need it. Much more maneuverable than a dump trailer, albeit, less capacity. If I could get a decent dollar for the Avalanche, I'd sell it. The Chevs and GMC trucks are rebating $9500. Makes it hard to resist getting a 2500 series 4wd ext cab with 8 ft box. :D :D

Actually our car is up for sale if anyone's interested. Come on now, help me get that 2500 series. Mercedes C320 is a comfy ride :) Kijiji Halifax

There are some sweet deals on right now for new trucks. Its hard to pass up. I think a 3/4 ton would serve you much better personally.

What about a used, older 3/4 ton? Then you could keep your avalance clean as your daily driver?

Slide in dumps are OK, but theyre heavy and add weight that your carrying around all the time, plus theyre kind of expensive IIRC.

Nice Merc. Not really what im after, but if you know where theres any old Land Cruisers id love to know:D

On a related note... WHat do you think of the changes theyve made to Kijji? I hate it. While i applaud them for reducing the spammers, theyve made it sooooo hard to do anything on there.

The new search method SUCKS. I want to see all the items available for Nova Scotia, with one search, not the several required under the new system. The search radius option doesnt find all the listings within the radius i set ( ive found many items not listed in radius by doing individual searches under "cities")

THeres been many posts on the Kijji forums about this, and the standard (IMHO rude if youve read the forums) response from Kijji is that Kijji is for LOCAL only, and you have to use Ebay for larger areas. Obviously they have NO idea how things work here in NS, as everything from Yarmouth to Sydney to Fredricton would be LOCAL to me. Personally i think that the free sales on Kijji were hurting Ebay's bottom line and thats the reason for all these changes:rolleyes::rolleyes:
