Apparently, someone said it’s actually better than the Allison.
Now, I have owned both.
How bout you?

The point of this thread isn't how much you think of the Aisin, it's about getting an economical gas truck. You can't get the Aisin/Cummins combo for less than 55k. I'm not looking for that as "economical". I have listened to numerous hot shot truckers who put hundreds of thousands of miles on these transmissions in a years time. Much better than my experience with Aisin (none) or Allison ( had one for about 5 years).

You aren't going to convince me that an Aisin is better than an Allison. I know of no shortcomings of an Allison 6 speed transmission. There is literally nothing to improve upon.

No, that article did not state that the Aisin was better than an Allison, if that is what you are implying.

It’s not my point, either.
You said nobody thinks the Aisin is better than the Allison.
I just found someone who did.
Want to see another?

I put 200,000mi on an Allison 1000 series 6 speed in a GM and I have 1&1/2 years and 16,000 miles of insane heavy towing on an Aisin 6 speed in a Ram.

But if you have your mind made up, why bother lol.

I was just challenging your statement that no one has ever said the Aisin is better than the Allison. It took me 30 seconds to google 2 articles that say you are wrong.

Here's a real world discussion of the Ford 7.3 gasser.

Thanks for the link. It really backs up what ive already read:

I’m disappointed. We’ve owned one for 13 months and have been able to drive it for maybe 5…been in the shop the rest of the time. In there now for the second round of tranny work. Ford did offer a half hearted attempt to buy it back tho…that was nice. Oh yea, they also offered to lease us a F-150 for $80/day…15 day maximum.

I hope yours works out better for you. Ours is the only one I’ve heard about having these many issues though.
Also, I hope you weren't implying that youtubers aren't "real world" somehow. I have youtube videos as well. It's just people like me and you making real vidoes about their experiences.

Read much Mechanicalguy?

From the article:

“When you compare the Aisin vs. Allison transmission, it’s easy to see that while both offer similar gears and sizing, the Aisin shines when it comes to towing power.

If the Allison is better, why do the bigger 4500-6500 GM trucks have so much lower GCWRs than the smaller Ram 5500?

Undoubtedly I could find a fan boy who would testify to anything if I were looking to validate something wrongfully, but I am not looking to do that. I am relaying what I've read and seen and talked to people from the standpoint of trucking needs. People who put mega miles on trucks say that the Aisins are not as smooth as the Allisons. That is a mark against them imo. Maybe they can haul as well, good, great, I would love one probably. But they aren't even in the discussion with the gasser pick ups that I'm looking at.

🙄

As if the Ally doesn't?

You just like to be contrary. I've seen it many times before.

Towing power. Lol. That comes from the engine ya rube.

So let me see if I got this straight.….
”Smooth” is the biggest reason for a transmission being the better transmission?
gotcha…. :sneaky:
Have you seen what I’m towing, how frequently and where I’m towing? Maybe you could learn something lol

Hey if it makes ya feel better, Ram may be going to a 10 speed Allison just to get into the competition of “it has more gears so it MUST be better” riiiiight
Aisin may not want to build more than a 6 speed.
I know it’s all Bravo Sierra with the “more gears is better”. It’s like the HP wars. So stupid.
With trucks, it’s all about off pedal torque, low rpms to develop torque and flat torque curves to get real work done.
I really like Allison transmissions. I don’t care which one they use. I just want the best tow ratings.

Again, it all gets back to your false claim that “nobody says Aisin transmission is better than Allison transmission”, which I proved wrong in under a minute.
I have more articles ready, just lmk, k?

Those trucks are ridiculous IMO. I doubt the transmission is the limiting factor though.

That’s not what I was told.
I was told the allison 1000, in its current design, was limited to a GCWR of 40,000 by a very good GM man.
