Usually about anything I am working on, parts are always more expensive from the MFG than elsewhere online. But I typically always call the MFG just to gain more knowledge and information.

The particular thing I was working on today was one of my toilets. Has one of them sloan flushmaster things in there where there is a black tank that the water pressurizes the air and makes it flush with more force.

Well after an hour or so searching for best prices and parts, I decided to call flushmaster directly. Mainly cause it was a discontinued unit and the replacement looked totally different and different flush mechanism, at least it looks that way in the pics. And I wasnt sure if the tanks I was looking at came with the flush valve or some of the other odds and ends.

Well.....my lucky day. Unit was on recall for the very issue I am having....cracked tank. They are sending me a new one and I should have it tomorrow.

Nothing in my searching of parts online indicated anything about a recall on this model. Only on a newer flushmaster III models.

Things like this have happened a few times in the past as well on different things. Calling the MFG up directly and getting what I need under a free warranty replacement or at a heavily discounted price.

So....it dont cost anything to but a few minutes on the phone. Always worth calling the MFG IMO

I have a set of ear muffs with built-in radio. Wife lost the on/volume knob. Just for grins, I emailed 3M and since they don't sell the knobs they're sending me a complimentary knob in 7-10 days. Got a FAST and SUNDAY response to my email. Almost always worth a shot....

Agreed, I bent a piece on my box blade. Emailed the manufacturer with no response. Checked around and cheapest I could buy the needed size steel was going to be $40. Still had to drill some holes and make a couple bends. I can make holes, but not having a good way to accurately bend a big chunk of steel, I went to a place that services tractor-trailers and one of the fellas would do the bending and drilling for $15 during lunch. Figured $55 was going to be a good deal for fixing my mistake... Decided to give the manufacturer one more try, but called them. They said they would ship me a replacement for $44 ($32 for the part and $12 for shipping). Even arrived painted...

+1 on calling the manufacturer. I have a battery operated oil pump/filter for pumping the oil out of my turkey fryer. The impeller broke so I called to see if the part was available. They just sent a whole replacement unit at no charge. I'm thinking it was because the box the replacement came in was damaged. Who cares if the box was damaged the new device was free and works flawlessly.
