B7800
I'm just starting to think about getting a backhoe.Don't really need one but I have a few trenching/drainage jobs I want to do and could probably find more games to play with it once I got it. The Woods BH6000 seems reasonably priced, but their literature shows it mounted on some smaller (like BX sized) tractors so I was just wondering if anybody had any experience putting one on a B7800.I was also wondering if anybody knows where they measure from when they tell you the digging depth. At first I assumed measuring from the ground, but since it's 3pt hitch mounted the depth would be dependant on what size tractor you mount it on. If they're measuring from the lift pins or something like that it would seriously affect the real depth of the hole you could dig with it.Does anybody know. Thanks.

I would say the Woods BH 70 is a better fit for the 7800. The BH6000 seems a little to small for that size tractor.

I've got a Woods BH6500 on my B7300. It is about as large as I'd want to go on my tractor. Yours is a bit larger in size so I think that a 7 footer would be a better choice.

The longer the boom (digging depth) the better, not because you're going to dig really deep holes all the time but because you won't have to move your machine as often. The height that the hoe is mounted at does make some difference, but you're lifting the machine up with the stabilizers when you dig so that is more a measurement / control of how far off the ground the hoe will be.

You should also check out Woods newer "X" series. I'm sure they cost a bit more but they have some very nice evolutionary changes compared to the BH series.

In my opinion, a 7 or 7.5 foot backhoe is correctly sized for a B7800. You want the extra mostly for reach, not necessarily for digging depth.

I've got a Woods BH70-X on my B7800. It works as advertised. I don't think a smaller bh would be as useful, though.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking into a BH70-X, and since you have that exact setup, maybe I could ask you a couple of questions.
i) how difficult is it( time and skill) to install the subframe?
ii)is it easy to take on and off with the subframe mount?
iii) did you get the mechanical thumb? and if so does it get in the way when you are not using it?
Thanks again

The BH6000 would be a bit small, I have a BH6500 also on my B7610. You may want to check out the Bradco units, my buddy has one on his B7800.

I have a BH6000 on a BX and it would definitely be too small for your 7800. THe BH70 is the way to go here. I love the Woods product and would highly recommend it.
