First, I don't know much about BS (Bale Spears, did I get you?) 
I picked up a heavy duty one on Craig's list (Raleigh/$125). It was used for the 3PH but was too heavy for the guy. I was going to lighten the load and remove 100 lbs by welding new bottom brackets on it. In the process of looking at photos of BS, I've come to the conclusion that this might have been use for a QA, FEL? I took a photo of the hole pattern, Do you know if this is for a FEL?
If that were the case, would it make sense ($) to refurbish it and sell; then buy (or build) a cheap 3ph BS? How much would it go for? Ballpark guesses are fine (if you need better photos, I can do that... or at least try). The guy I bought it from did say he had to move the brackets way in.
