My wife hates it. That should have been a red flag.... I don't think it is too good for you sniffing any of that stuff.

Especially brakleen:
Methanol 45%
Toluene 20%
Heptane 20%
Acetone 20%

Nasty stuff...

The fumes from diesel exhaust from idling engines are pretty nasty too. My tolerance level for that is pretty low. I too remember the APC's being idled to warm them up before heading off to riot duty in 86 in mid winter and I personally couldn't wait to get moving..

The best part about shooting is cleaning up and re-living all the smells of the day.

This one is a little different. If you can smell diesel exhaust it means you got it started!

Never used the hoppers 9 sounds good tho, we used to use wd40 after rain or coming in and guns would condense up & get wet , WD them quick after a quick towel dry and run a rod down bbl... ready for evening hunts.
Smells are something tho, love the brewing coffee Mom back in the day used one of the perk type with the glass bubbler top thingy which was fun for us kids to watch.

How about this little guy?? image-2983523208.jpg

From the package..."Orange by KTC. For the man or woman with a love of the tractoring lifestyle. A premium mix of ULSD exhaust, UTD2 and moly grease with subtle hints of freshly mowed thistle, newly plowed soil and cow poo."

Just kidding... That would have been better, it smelled weird and I'm glad the finally sent wore off. :)

Hoppes No.9 after shooting black powder. On a cold winter day, the smoke from a 50 Hawken will just hang in the air.

Although I use Pyrodex mostly nowadays, it just is not the same as the smell and feel of real black powder.

FWIW...

From what I've read the sense of smell is closely related to human memory...and my experience supports the theory...

...BTW...I like the smell of Hoppes...can't say the same for WD 40 though...I don't mind it at all outdoors...but I don't want to smell it inside...Hoppes is different...!

As far as "sweet" goes...I'll take orange blossoms or gardenias any day...!
