I was checking my replies from a while back and noticed I'd said something that's just plain wrong. The edit post button seems to disappear after a while and isn't showing for the offending reply. Is there still a way to edit the reply or remove it completely?

You can click the small triangle in the lower left corner of the post to report it, then describe the action you're requesting in the text box. This alerts the moderators and admins.

Yep, you have 24 hours to edit your posts, after that you have to report it and have one of the moderators fix it.

That triangle alert has worked well for me.

You might also ask them to move this thread to "News and Feedback", where others are more likely to find it. Despite the forum's title, it's kind of a catchall for website related stuff.

Or you can always make a new post in that thread stating that you made a mistake and give a correction.

IMHO, that’s sometimes better. The thread can get a little goofy if there are comments based on a post that was later changed.

Good point. Also, if the original post has been quoted in the body of a subsequent reply ("Reply With Quote"), a later edit will only change the original post. The error will remain in the subsequent reply.

My view is that if much time has passed, it's better just to "Reply With Quote" to your own post, and state the correction or clarification there. Not that it's ever happened to me, of course. ;)

That's the way I'd do it. Just quote your old post with the incorrect information, and reply with the corrected information and why you corrected it. Makes a good, chronological thread that's easy to read VS editing an old post.
