How did a post about a $200 part that can be replaced in about 3 hr become so far off. It has become a GM bashing thread and many similar threads have been locked. Not sure why this one isn't.

Chris your original post was about the defective crimps on the tranny cooler lines. The OEM replacements are no better than the original. I understand your friend has the extended warranty but for the time and aggravation I strongly suggest you purchase one of the aftermarket solutions and install them.

Now for the other stuff you've brought up, if it's being repaired under warranty what's the issue. If the dealer can't fix it correctly find another dealer.

This thread is just brand bashing and should be closed.

Matt

He does not have a extended warranty, its all under he 100,000 mile power train warranty.

The issue is he is self employeed. No truck, no work. I have loaned him a truck for close to a month over the 4 years he has had this truck so he could keep working. His dealer was one that was forced out of business with the GM restructure so now he has to take it to another dealer. The policy around here is they do not give loaners unless you buy from them and then its usually something like a Cobalt which will not allow him to keep working.

As for bashing the truth about this truck is not bashing. I have never called it names other than a POS which it is. I just get a kick out of how some on this site bash Ford and Nissan but I have a 06 F-350 with the supposedly awful 6.0L that he now uses to keep his business going and its been in the shop once for a bad fuel gauge. It did die on me and had to be towed and after 3 days they figured out even though the gauge read 1/4 tank it was bone dry. Trust me I was not happy and have reported this about my truck many many times. Other than a few light bulbs, brakes, fluids, and tires this truck has needed nothing in about 100,000 hard miles. My 08 Titan has had a recall on the fuel pump and other than that its needed nothing, not even a light bulb in 56,000 miles. Original tires and brakes but they are due around 60,000 miles so this will be the first dime spent on it other than a battery last week.

These trucks are not babied either. The F-350 has had a 12,000# or heavier trailer behind it about 75% of the miles and the Titan has had 7,000# to 10,000# about 60% of the time.

Chris, you forget I had the 6.0 in my f250. The 6.0 was the most problem prone light diesel engine in recent history. The issues ran the spectrum and were all high$$. This is not my opinion but fact from warranty claims.

I understand it was rushed into production due to EPA regs. And towards the end of it's run it had very few warranty claims. That still doesn't mean much to hard working blue collar guys who dropped 50k only to have ford tell them told to bad so sad, buy a 6.4 now.

I maintained my 6.0 religiously, ran full syn, was careful about excess idling. When I towed I towed heavy, the turbo went at 35k. Was fixed under warranty and told just run it hot and hard by ford. At 85k it started boiling coolant. back to the dealer to be told it's either headgasket or oil cooler and fords not paying for it. Now bare in mind I had and extended warranty and the 100k factory warranty on the engine and tranny.

So after all I'd spent on the truck I was left high and dry by ford. I contacted ford directly not just went though the dealer. I was told they've spent too much money fixing the 6.0 and had moved on. Now up till then I had bought all fords and was very brand loyal.

Now I realize all brands have issues, but if I'm paying for it I'd rather have a $200 issue than a 6k engine job after dumping that much into the purchase of the vehicle. Sterotype's exsist for a reason. Some founded some not. But the 6.0 deserves it's rep from my personnal experiences with it. Not hearsay of internet experts.

I agree the 6.0 had its fair share of issues but dont forget some of the Dmax and Cummins trucks did also. You either got a good one or a bad one. I was lucky and had 2 6.0L trucks and both are trouble free. One got sold at 120,000 miles because of a new child on the way and the little lady wants a car. My 05 Dmax had its fair share of issues and like you was told its just the way it is. I sold it after 9 months.

Like you said, none are perfect but I still feel the Ford Superduty package is by far the best truck on the market.
