Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

I know a few people who are planning to buy Cybertrucks this year. Otherwise-intelligent people. I just don't get it.

As if the hitch falling off wasn't enough of a deterrent, you get to drive an ugly and downright-offensive looking vehicle!
It's ugly for sure, not sure if I'd call it "offensive". It's a "look at me!" purchase, no different than a Hummer (either the original or the new E-Hummer or that toyota wannabe for that matter), Raptor pickup, or even the pimped out SUVs that some celebrities/rappers, etc. drive. Expensive, showy vehicle that's not terribly practical in the real world, but that's not why they bought it.

What do you mean? You never use your truck as a truck?

I still use mine as a truck once in a while. I hauled our new couch home in it, and it's a big heavy sucker. I used to haul feed and hay in it but the horses are long gone. I haul lumber in it and firewood sometimes. I haul pallets stacked above the cab on occasion too as well as a refrigerator and lawnmower.

I would use a cyber truck as a truck just as much as I use my F250 diesel as a truck.

Having driven my Cousin's Cyber Truck and taking it back to our hunting property last month in the snow with 3 of us in it and it performing just fine and never even spinning a wheel, I was very impressed. I was also impressed at how the battery adapted to the very cold temperature (never got above 15 degrees (f) the entire time we were up there). I was impressed and granted it's fugly but as the old saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'd never buy one but then I'm not into EV's in the first place.

On another note, my wife was looking at the recently released VW van that looks a lot like the old VV Microbus from the 60's that I had one of. Problem is, the new one is an EV, the range is rather short and the price tag at 65 grand is pretty steep as well. Not going to even consider one. Too bad they didn't offer an ICE powered version as we'd have one in the driveway tomorrow.

well that answers what you (don't) use your F250 diesel for
Which makes my point that most truck owners (F150 size especially) don't use their trucks for towing, hauling or seldom use it to haul stuff in the bed.

I did use my F250 to haul 4 loads of paver base and pea gravel last year as well as loaded the bed with flagstone. I just don't use that often.

I use my truck for all those things when I need to do them. Do I haul/tow every day? No.
I'd imagine most truck owners do the same. When you need a truck you need a truck. Not everyone can afford a whole fleet of specialty vehicles, easier to get one that will do most of what you need/want to do.
When you use a non-truck to do truck stuff often as not you qualify for inclusion in the "towing or hauling something wrong" thread.

Kind of reminds me of me when I first got behind the wheel of my cousin's Cyber Truck and it is hard to get into and out of and I sent a message to Tesla about that. They need assist handles on both sides of the truck for getting in and out of. especially when it's in the off road (raised) mode.

Said before, I think it's pretty innovative, it's fugly and I'd never have one but then I'd never own an EV in the first place. Glad I had the opportunity to dive it on road and off road and it was very capable of getting us (3 of us) into our property via a thick with snow covered seasonal road and that included fording a creek and it was at all times, very capable and comfortable. The idiots in the YT video posted previously in my opinion were just idiots, remined me of rich kids with no respect and sense. I watched about 3 minutes of that video and that was totally enough of that nonsense. No one buying a new F150 or Cyber Truck for that matter would subject either vehicle to that unless they were insane or spoiled brats or just plain idiots.
