Is TBN too "family friendly" for your tastes?

You know this thread has given me a few laughs. Someone (I won't say who) recently posted a comment that "once you're on someones radar, nothing you do is right after that" (I couldn't remember who posted that, nor did I remember that he had also removed it later until I went back and did some checking this morning).

So I couldn't help but laugh when both N80 and Skyco recently mentioned me having edited or removed posts of theirs. I don't remember either incident, although I suppose I might be able to go back and look them up.

However, I do remember when Muhammad stepped in and removed some of my posts, and needed to.

Let us face it, one can have multiple personalities on the internet. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. You just need to be aware of where you are and who your audience is. And play by the rules. Anonymity can have its benefits.

Killer_B and N80, couldn't agree more!!! Last time I checked "family" was a good thing, so being "family friendly" ought also be a good thing. You pretty much said it perfectly.

Bird, it was two years ago. I was arguing with Soundguy. I arguing based on things I'd heard (I had no experience) and he was arguing from experience. It got a little heated and you stepped in very appropriately and you kindly PM'd me and that was it. Thing is, if you had not moderated the thread I probably would have caused it to get out of control and probably would have left TBN in a huff and possiby sent others away as well. So there are two morals to the story. 1) Good moderation helps to retain more people than it runs off and 2) You had a good opportunity to get rid of me and missed your chance!

Too Family friendly? Are you nuts?????

Let me tell you why I will NOT go on a site that is NOT family friendly any more.

A year ago I almost lost everything I owned when someone that owns another forum attempted to blackmail me. I was a moderator on that forum and actually helped him get it up and running. I did a few little odd jobs for him over a couple years too for free. Working on stuff inside my specialty.
Anyway, getting stuff for free went to his head and he started demanding things from me. At the end of my time with that forum he was threatening me and saying if I didn't give him what he wanted that he would ruin me.

Well he almost did.

I was looking for a way to get off that forum without losing customers for a long time because it was not the family friendly place I had been promised it would stay any more. A bunch of gun nuts, nazzis, white supremacists and just your plain old run of the mill people with nothing better to do had taken over. Within a month of my telling that guy I didn't want anything to do with him anymore there was 30 something pages of lies about me on his forum. Almost all of it was by spoof accounts (the owner and his admin that he was paying had several user accounts each) and it caused me and my family a great deal of problems right before Christmas last year. This nut even went so far as to call and email the customers and friends I had made on that forum and tell them lies about me. He was also telling them that I was going bankrupt and saying they should charge back any purchases they made recently with me before the court locks it all up. What a crock. He did cause enough charge backs from scared customers though to seriously put the hurt on us. I started having heart problems because of it. It wasn't very fun explaining to my kid why we couldn't afford to eat three meals a day either. FWIW I never did and never planned on going bankrupt. He just made it up and that is a criminal offense called tortious interference. We just added that to all the civil offenses he made that we can't afford to do anything about.

because I needed a good way to stay in touch with my customers. It's a lot better than email. I have banned more freaks than you can imagine. Mine WILL stay family friendly! I will report people to the cops too for doing illegal things on my forum. I just won't tolerate any more people on the net thinking they can do anything they want to other people without consequences. The internet is so full of people with absolutely no conscience and full of hatred that it's about time someone put their foot down. I'm glad this place is family friendly. I would not be here if it wasn't.

Now, thanks to Google, I am still dealing with that liar and his forum a year after it happened. He's gone on to blackmail other business's too and is getting away with it. Please keep this place nice and people like that out so noone else will get screwed like I did. It's nice that people can ask questions here and get real answers. Go try that on some of the gun forums and see what you get. Actually most of them. Don't let this place go that direction.

I had a somehwhat similar experience as a moderator on a photography web site. We had to boot this well know internet nut-job. Prior to his getting the boot he pm'd me with some typical insults. Foolishly I replied to him questioning his sanity. Later, after he was booted by the admins he posted his own web site with this long diatribe about how awful our web site was and he included my email to him in that. No big deal, except that he loaded it with profanity and racial slurs (even though he was a white male). He also included some slurs against some of the other mods and we got a big laugh out of this idiots sad little anti-world web site.

Well, one day after one of our office meetings one of the hospital VP's that I work for calls me aside. A patient of mine had Googled my name, as patients will do, and found this altered letter and then called management. Boy, it really looked a lot less funny then! In any case, shortly after that his site disappeared. I don't know why but have to wonder if the lawyers of this big hospital system had given him a call.
