Hi
I was at the Farm and Ranch show in Edmonton and talked to the Kubota rep. I think that some of the information he gave me regarding the L3400 is not correct, what he told me appears to contradict what is in the sales brochure. Maybe someone here can help me out.

I was shown the L4400 since that was the model on display. It has a nice switch to turn the pto on and off. I was told that it electrically controlled a hydraulic clutch pack to turn the pto on and off. He also told me that the L3400 gear had the same system. The brochure says the L3400 gear has a dual stage clutch. I this a contradiction?

I want a better tractor than the 8n I am currently running for my 5ft bush hog. I like the idea of the electric switch on the L4400 but do not need the size of the L4400.

Thanks,

yup, my bad. It uses a switch to turn it on, so I just assumed its electro-hydraulic. I guess it would be electro-mechanical.

I picked up the new 2008 L2800/L3400/L4440 Brochure today and noticed the following regarding the PTO on the brochures over the years:

2004 No HST available
2005 L3400 HST: Live-continuous with overrunning clutch
2006 L3400 HST: Live-continuous running
2007 L3400 HST: Live-continuous running
2008 L3400 HST: Live-continuous with overrunning clutch

The 2005 brochure had the following language, 典o protect the transmission, L2800/L3400 HST models also have an overrunning clutch on the PTO shaft.

The above sentence was removed from the 2006 and 2007 brochure.

The 2008 brochure has the following language, 典he HST models also feature an over-running clutch on the PTO shaft to protect the transmission.

I find it interesting that the overrunning clutch is noted once again after being absent for two years

Yeah I find it pretty odd to that they keep talking about the ORC.

One thing that i do know is that many of their manuals seem to be out of date - e.g owners manual wrt. latest oil specs. I'll be its nothing other than the manual being out of date. Changing even little verbage isn't cheap to a company that probably needs to translate it into 30 different languages etc. I'm not defending it being out of date - just pointing out the logistics.

NorthOf49 - how much land do you have? I've got a L3400 and it is a really nice machine. I'd say I wouldn't need a L4400 either but if I were doing it again I sure woudl consider it! I don't think you are going to loose out getting a L4400 instead unless there is something specific wrt. space that you are trying to do where the L3400 would fit and the L4400 would not.
