Comparison Is Kubota L3800 worth 2000 more than JD3038E?

I am going to both dealerships and play with them.

This right here is going to be the "tell-all".

When you are already talking about a $18k tractor, $2k isnt much if it is settling for something you dont like. Just like spending the extra $2k is foolish if you like the deere better but we all are telling you the kubota is a better built machine.

So buy what you like.

I cant comment on warrent work/maintenance cost for the 3038, because I think it is a completely new model.

But he L3800 has been around for awhile. It is the same as a L3400 just a few more features and updated (modern) styling. And there are a boatload of satisfied 3400 owners on here.

Wish you luck, and let us know after you test them both out.

And be sure the Kubota dealer shows you how easy the loader comes off the L3800.

Ask Kubota to throw in boxblade with purchase, worth a shot. But if you compare to kubota dealer what JohnDeere you looking at they are going to point out the same as others have in here, and thats why you are paying alittle more for there tractor. Never hurts to ask anyways but 0% for 60,$2GRAND, payment going to go up,what $33 dollars. You could take loader off and not use as much diesel while mowing(ride is much better too) and with 3 ranges may help you also, just basically saying you may be able to make it up in the long run...
Other things to take in mind service cost, parts cost, hauling distance to shop, who's got the best service after the sale, best warranty, the stuff that may come later...

If you can decouple the trade from the deal for a moment and just compare the new tractors and their isolated prices, it would be useful for the discussion here.

Well said! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I am more concerned about the quality of the JD3038E and the Kubota L3800. Which one will hold up better down the road? Which one has lower repair cost after the warranty?

Kubota for sure. I checked out the 3038 in more detail. Not impressed. The Kubota is a very well made tractor based on a proven chassis.

In my opinion these tractors are not on the same playing field. The Kubota is a professional machine while the Deere looks like it's geared towards homeowners, weekend DIY crowd. Know what I mean?

I would pay $5,000 more for the Kubota!

I'll offer what I think is an objective opinion. My experience with tractors is limited to larger Ag tractors (Deere) or small garden/lawn mowers (Deere and Cub Cadet). I now also have one sub-compact (Kubota) that I've had for just a few years now. So, I've never owned or operated a tractor in the size range of these two being compared, so it's fair that my opinion may not be worth much.

Watching the comparison video posted by reggiejr my thoughts are that this is almost not a fair comparison. The L3800 is obviously just plain more tractor, as well has having some other advantages that have already been pointed out by other posters. Truthfully, I'm quite surprised that there is only $2K difference. I wouldn't have guessed they'd be nearly this close in price.

However, if either of these two tractors will truly satisfy your needs (that is, if the Kubota will not give you anything you think you can take advantage of, either now or in future projects) then I guess it just comes down to price.
Not much point in paying a couple thousand more for a tractor if the lesser priced one will do everything you will ever need from it.

But man, that sure looks like a lot more tractor for the $2k...

Both the Kubota Dealer and the JD Dealer are giving me basically the same amount for my tractor. The Kubota Dealer is actually offering me $500 more than the JD Dealer.

So it really is $2000 difference in Price. Plus I get a Froniter 5 ft. Box Blade (They show cost $1000) and 0% Financing for 60 months.

I would like to get the Kubota but I am having a hard time justifying the difference. I know the Kubota is heavier, I know the Kubota has 3 Ranges, and I know that Kubota has a removable FEL. I like all of this but I don't know if it is worth that much difference.

I am more concerned about the quality of the JD3038E and the Kubota L3800. Which one will hold up better down the road? Which one has lower repair cost after the warranty?

I am going to both dealerships and play with them.

Thanks for all the information.

So your really saying $3,000 difference with the box blade included??

I'm all with the band wagon, if the price is the same, I choose the Kubota. Papa said the Kubota is worth $5k more, well I'm going to say that's a little exaggeration.

No way I could justify an extra $3k with the box blade for a loader I never take off (along with the OP), weight that I can easily add. There are some clear advantages of the Kubota, no doubt. But the $3,000 question is are they worth it? If I'm paying, no. Not enough for me, but that is really all for the OP to decide.

Another thing to consider is how long are you going to have this tractor? 10 years and trade in, or will it be the rest of your life you'll own it? Brings the total cost of ownership down if you're going to have it much longer.

Your going to have the same reliability with either tractor, you can argue all you want that one tractor is more reliable, but in reality they are really the same. Biggest difference will be if your dealer supports you when you have a problem. If your Kubota dealer is willing to provide better support, that alone may be worth the extra $3k.

I really don't think you can go wrong with either tractor, both have their ups and downs, and while the Kubota may be considered a better overall tractor, is it $3k better?

I know you are probably not interested, and may not even have a Kioti dealer within a 100 miles, but if you do, I would look very hard at a CK30HST.. It has some really nice features (like extendalbe 3pt lower links and telescoping side adjusters Tilt wheel cruise etc) and is typically is less money than either the JD or the Kubota. Kioti's have a big following now and I would give them a good look.. but that's just me...:)

Go sit on them both and the decision should be an easy one.

Before i bought mine i went to look at and try the jd 3038e first and i didn't care
for the limited view of the loader bucket and to be honest
it felt like i was sitting on my lawnmower.
Then i went to see the l3800 and it just felt like so much more tractor.
Ive had my L3800 for almost a year now and I'm very satisfied with the tractor so far.
Sounds like you've already settled on the deere tho but i would definitely
go try the kubota before you pull the trigger.I don't think the deere is a bad
machine we have a few jd's at work and they make some great tractors
but the comparison of these two units my choice is the kubota all the way.
Also if your tractor is an older one with not a lot of value i would
consider buying your new one without trading and get your best cash price
instead and then just shine yours up and sell it yourself you could probably
get more for it that way.I would bring the j.d. numbers back to the kubota dealer
and see what they could do for you.1000.00 sounds high for a box blade id
just get one off the last guy that got one with his tractor and realized he doesn't
use it and buy it for the 300-500 range.
Enjoy yourself shopping tractors around its half the fun of getting a new tractor.

When doing your tractor setting and trying to figure out what to do I suggest you also try out a Deere 3520. Same power class and alot more tractor. While the 3520 may cost more than the other two choosing it may eliminate upsizing later on. I find that most poeple buying the basic tractors tend to move upscale within a short period of time, and that cost alot more than getting it right the first time.
