Here's another take on it from a favorite English automotive satire site I frequent...

FIRST FUEL CRISIS, NOW BOOZE CRISIS
No sooner has Britain been plunged into fuel crisis than reports are growing that the newspapers are poised to completely manufacture another catastrophe for the British public, this time centred around booze. Already some parts of the country have experienced record queues at bars and pubs as word spreads of possible drink shortages and some landlords have expressed concerns about their ability to meet with demand as the thick British public decide to tackle a potential problem by actually increasing their consumption of whatever is in short supply. Panic drinking started earlier this week and is expected to escalate as fears grow for a completely made up shortfall, particularly in Stella, Staropramen and other drinks that make you go mental. "We pay too much for booze as it is," said one drinker in Preston. "Now the government won't act to stop this booze crisis I was left with no option by to sink 11 pints of Guinness and a couple of whiskey chasers. I didn't want to, but I can't risk a situation where next week I'm left without being able to go for a quiet pint and a curry". Psychologists say that panic drinking is an entirely understandable phenomenon akin to that experienced at airports when all the gurning scum off your flight crowd selfishly around the baggage carousel as if that will make their luggage arrive faster. "It's a well known reaction in situations like this," said human behaviour expert Dr Pantene Provee. "It comes back to what social scientists would refer to as 'everyone in the entire country being **** stupid'".
However, not everybody in Britain was content simply to drink lots of booze that they didn't want or need. Following the lead from this week's fuel demonstrations, drink-based groups are planning to take action of their own with a series of really **** protests.
Meanwhile, the drinks industry moved swiftly to calm the situation; "There is no drink shortage looming," said a spokesman for the British Association of Booze. "We admit that stocks did dip momentarily, but this was purely caused by the England cricket team".
Another kind of stupid sheep,

Bothers me when all the stations in town (3 in ours) all change up or down at exactly the same time

I always wondered about that. It is amazing how most of the gas stations around here sell gas for exactly the same price. What do they do stand out on the street with binoculars?

So, when we decrease our demand, the price will go down.

Well the price does seem to be going down so I guess I owe you guys a thank you and a thumbs up. Keep up the good work. I wouldn't mind if the price keeps going down. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Gas is dropping a few pennies every day. I just filled up at $2.24.9. Diesel is STILL $3.19.9.

I find it incredable that they have us raving about how CHEAP gas is at $2.24. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Diesel fuel dropped from $3.33 per gallon to $2.85 today here.

It seems like it must have been in another galaxie, but I remember real price wars amoung gas stations when I was a LOT younger - - prices dropped into the teens. Of course the 'normal' prices were only 25-28 cents/gal.

Tdog, I guess you know that if you remember gas wars you just might be an old fart.

It takes one to know one. I remember when two quarters worth of gas was good for two summer days in my brother's '55 Volkswagen.

I was selling it in my dad's service station back then and it wasn't unusual to have a customer come in and ask for a quarter's worth of gas, and many many customers who stopped for a dollar's worth.

Another funny thing was that we had the name brand (detergent) oils out on display; sold for 40 and 45 cents a quart, which included our profit of 11 cents. Occasionally we'd have customers driving old cars who would ask if we had any "two bit" oil. They sometimes seemed a bit embarrassed to ask. But we stocked "Texas Star" re-refined motor oil; sold for a quarter a quart and we were glad to accomodate them since our profit was 12.5 cents. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
