Permethrin on my shoes, pants/overalls has been a huge difference. No bites this year at all.
The chiggers we have here can't even vocalize let alone talk. You must have some smart ones where you live....must be Connecticut, Maine.....or California maybe?
You know they are bad when you can walk on a gravel road and get them! The little b**tards have nailed me several times behind the knees and armpits.

No better or worse this year. Some old, same old, which means just flat out bad.
The wifey wanted me to grill something a weekend or so back. I said no. The last time I grilled, the chiggers bit me. Not bad but some is bad enough.
The grill is on gravel near the barn and I only walk on gravel but the chiggers, CSotD(Crawling Spawns of the Devil) still got me.
At least I am somewhat getting used to them since the bites do not cause me to itch THAT much anymore.....
We just got back from a beach trip to FLA. The danged resort is full of no-see-em's and they tore me up though I did my best to avoid those FSotD(Flying Spawns of the Devil). My legs are still tore up.

I do not remember ever having my ankles itch as much as it seems they do this year.
Is it me just getting older or are they really bad this year?
They seem to be only bad for some people here in North Texas. Here I am a man amongst men, tougher than a hand forged nail, and the darn little hussies have been all over me this year. Everyone else gets a pass it seems but I'm not su lucky. I have even given up the sulfur sock for the meanest insect repellent and I'm still getting ate alive.
Years ago chiggers left me with over a 100 bites, at least that's where I stopped counting, that was miserable as it takes a week for them to stop itching, even with treatment.
What I find fascinating is that some people I know have never been affected by chiggers. They spend days in the woods and are either not bitten or the bites have no ill effect.
A friend of mine is an avid hunter, almost 80 years old, from West Virginia. He is always in the woods, all through the summer, has hunted all over the country, mostly in the southeast, and has never had a single chigger bite, or bite wound.
My girlfriend is the same way....completely unaffected by chiggers.
Wish I knew why.......
How you fixed for ticks over there Dan?.. we got lots. I could send some!![]()
Thank you for your very kind offer!
But we will have to politely decline.:laughing::laughing:
I swear the ticks here are APC(Armored Personal Carriers) for the chiggers.I have find ticks crawling on me while sitting in the house. They come in with the dog and for some reason come after me. :confused3:
