Is chiggers bad this year?

I do not remember ever having my ankles itch as much as it seems they do this year.
Is it me just getting older or are they really bad this year?

I suppose it depends on where you live. This year I haven't been bothered a bit (or a bite) here in S. central Iowa. Maybe the extra rains have drowned the little buggers.
That and I'm really careful to apply OFF several times a day.

luckily I have not been attacked yet this year, but I always take appropriate precautions. I did get chewed up bad last September, because I was not prepared
Chiggers are no different than any other insect in that some conditions favor the production. The weather or rainfall could affect their numbers. You may have just gone through a patch of newly hatched, hungry chiggers and they feasted on you.
I use high pvc boots, mil spec-rip stop nylon pants and permethrin and it saves my ankles. washing with soap and warm water as soon as you can will help as well.

The chiggers we have here can't even vocalize let alone talk. You must have some smart ones where you live....must be Connecticut, Maine.....or California maybe?

That's cuz yours are vacationing over this way! I was doing a job walk three weeks ago, went to dinner and got home late...and didn't shower. The reward for my carelessness...259 bites from my feet to you-don't-wanna-no-where. At least that was the number when my wife got tired of counting. Worst EVER!

Sulfur dust keeps 98% of them off of your skin. Dust shoes, ankles, socks, pants up to your knees.

Chiggers are numerous, and ticks are "thick"... None of them talk, as far as I know.

I was wondering the same thing. I have been bitten several times. bad part is, you don't know it until you start to itch. I started using off insect spray with deet and, it has kept them off. We had a cold winter, but it didn't seem to kill any bugs. Especially the chiggers. To say I hate them more than anything, would be an under statement
