I posted this on the general discussion, but thought you JD guys could help to.

I have 6.5 acres to mow and was looking at a JD X475 mower with a 62" deck and wanted you opinion if it could handle those acres?

I would just mow, nothing else. It's like a golf course, real smooth.

I do not own a X475 but do own a 1973 simplicity with a 62" deck and it mows my acreage just fine. I think this will but how much time do you want to spend mowing.

Well, the best I can tell the X475 mower goes as fast as the tractor that is mowing it now and has a 2" bigger deck so I don't really imagine any difference in time.

I think with the tractor, it can all be mowed in 7 - 8 hours.

I suppose the question is why not a ZTR? I can say that my 595 with a 62" MMM would mow that much grass, and pretty fast. I had a ZTR with a 60" deck, and although it was faster, the difference was not THAT great. I would estimate if the land is flat and open and the grass not that heavy, one could figure an X to mow 1.75 to 2 acres per hour (realistically). The ZTR, say a 757 JD for example, could mow 2-2.5 acres per hour, realistically, and maybe a little more. I was never able, though, to duplicate the astronomical claims of mowing speed the manufacturer of my ZTR claimed. I think that the 475 is big enough, but I would figure 3-4 hours to mow that much grass if it is smooth and open. The ZTR would save slightly over one hour each time, but you would lose some versatility in the process.

I would think the X475 would do the Job just fine , But A ZTR would be a hole lot faster. I have a Kubota ZD25 and I can cut a 3/4 acre lot in about 20 minutes ( Its a bit hilly) It takes me about 35 minutes to cut it with my JD 2210. It really is up to you how much time and money you would like to spend.

With the kind of hours you will be putting on a mower, you might consider a diesel model for efficiency and longevity.

Hours? I'm guessing mowing every other weekend. If it takes about 5 - 6 hours to mow the 6.5 acres, that would be about 10 - 12 hours a month on the motor.
