How does it compare to Preparators or Rock hounds?
I'm looking at getting one of the 3 and IMO
picking rocks up instead of windrowwing them
might be faster and better finish.

Hoeman,
I also liked the idea of picking the rocks up instead of windrowing them.I tried out a rockhound on a skid steer many times, but found that it really doesn't do half the job of loosening the soil that a harley rake does, the depth is only as deep as the tines on the rockhound, about an inch or so.They do make a three point hich rockhound but I have never seen one and hear from people that they don't perform all that well. The harley rake will also do much more than a rockhound,as far as grading and leveling is concerned,I have graded hard packed process driveways with mine and it does a terrific job,it is also great for stripping existing sod and not removing too much soil. After using a harley rake you'll be wondering why you didn't do it sooner! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

You should try and rent a Harley rake in the springtime and find out for yourself how well they really work. Keep in mind that there are two different models for tractors, the T6 with a single roller w/ Carbide Studs and also the PRO-6 model which has a double roller and hydraulic scarifiers. The PRO-6 is ideal for installing new lawns. The double rollers allow you to filter out all the stones, it leaves very little handwork behind. The T6 does a nicer job of loosening up compacted ground, and also is nice for renovating and or blending into existing areas. Rockhounds and preparators are nice because they pick up the rocks, however they do not do as nice a job at leveling/grading. I have sold about 15 Harley Rakes and every customer has been able to make the machine pay for itself in a very short time. They tell me that they are more profitable Raking than they are doing backhoe work. Anyways, Good Luck.....Tractorman

I have been looking for a Harley Rake and have just been quoted $5950 for a T5 model. This seems very expensive for a 5' model. Have you guys got any prices for any models?

Thanks....Jon

The dealer list on a T-6 is around $6699 a T-5 is $6200. The problem I have ran into is that no one stocks these and they have to be ordered so the dealer will normally charge you full list. So $5900 is in the ball park.

Does anyone know if the Landpride models compare?

Just was at an expo, and saw the Harley and Landpride side by each, and could not see a lot of difference. Looks like Landpride copied Harley (don't know that for sure). But if the Landpride is cheaper ($$), then it is probably "cheaper". Don't know that for sure either, but sometimes it just stands to reason. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Renting one is an excellent suggestion. I rented a nearly new one for a week and liked it so much I told them not to pick it up. A had 6 acres of field stone to clear and I figure that easily increased the value of the land by $1000 an acre, plus I still have the harley rake and many more acres to do in the future. I've found the rake works best when the ground is very moist (but not muddy) and well broken. It is very thorough, removing everything from golfball size rocks to 16 inch rocks. But set the blade course (open) first to get the big rocks and then lower it on the finish pass to get the small ones. I usually do 2 or 3 passes, but I got rocks of all sizes. I've mostly used it in angle mode as I'm doing large area and then pick up the rows of rocks with the loader. A rock bucket would be idea for this but I don't have that (not yet).

I don't know about the landpride, but I have a Woods that is manufactured by Harley. They are identical.
